The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.

Does anyone know the total number of UNSC colonies (inner and outer) in the Halo universe?

Cowbell.

I remember 19, but that can't be right... can it?

EDIT: From the Cole Protocol or First Strike I think I remember, the UNSC flag has 19 somethings to represent colonies, I think.

Well, the halo encyclopedia says about 800 colonies (but there has been much debate about that number). I've seen anything from 17 to 75 to hundreds. I guess it all depends on your source.

"Question. Which Spartan is best?"
"That's a ridiculous question."
"False. Master Chief."
"Well, that's debatable. There are basically two schools of thought."
"Spartans shoot Sangheili. Spartans. Sangheili.....Battle Star Galactica."

If you count outposts, it's probably well in the hundreds. If you're just basing it off of large populations, no more than 30.

About 800, but this includes moons, asteroids, etc. The total number of planets is probably around 100, because in the Step of Silence on High Charity there are 76 crystal shards, representing 76 glassed planets.
