Subject: Stat Check / Lone Wolves Advice

Hey all,

I'm a long time WoW player, so I'm used to posting on forums asking for a gear / gem / enchant check, spec advice, etc.

I'm new to Halo multiplayer, and to FPS multiplayer in general (just started playing Halo 3 online a few weeks ago), and was hoping some knowledgeable folk could take a look at my stats, particularly games / experience and skill rank and especially my kills / weapon breakdown.

I don't have any RL friends that play Halo 3 online, so I'm focused on improving my skill in Lone Wolves specifically. I throw in some Rumble Pit here and there when I'm tanking some bad beats and need to blow off some steam.

The main thing I am noticing is that my KD ratio is ATROCIOUS, like completely embarrassingly bad. I attribute this mostly to the fact that the vast majority of my kills come from either AR or Melee, which usually leaves my shields down and me an easy kill for someone else.

Problem is, I find using the BR, much less mastering the Sniper, very difficult in Lone Wolves these days. If I try to BR instead of AR, staying further from the combat and trying to clean up kills, someone usually spawns near me and molests me while my focus is on picking off combatants elsewhere. I find protecting myself with the BR very difficult. Is BR a decent strategy in LW or is AR more successful, in the majority of circumstances?

I'm also finding that at best I come in third, most commonly fourth, and a lot of times I come in the bottom half of the group. Usually, there are one or two guys who are just LEAGUES better than everyone else in there, and they get to 25 kills, or something like 25 and 22, before the rest of us have 6. This happens in 9/10 LW matches I enter. Basically, I have to try to scrape up whatever kills they don't manage to get, hoping to barely edge out the next closest guy.

Anyways, thats a summary of my situation. Any tips / advice would be appreciated. I know I'm not very good yet, so that doesn't really need to be reiterated time and time again :) I like to learn, practice, and get better though, but as I said, I'm very new to the FPS genre, which I'm finding requires vastly different skills than the RTS, RPG, MMO games that I have played for a long time.

Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't be giving anyone advice if you're new to Halo.

Not giving any advice at all, but rather looking for it.

Did I say you were giving advice?

You said I shouldn't give any, which I took to imply that you thought I was trying to give some. Apologies if I misunderstood.

Never mind, it would take too long to pan out / explain. Carry on.

Since you are new to Halo, you can improve pretty fast. I would think someone at your level would get much better if you are more familiar with every map, for example, you can run around with your head down knowing exactly where you are going.

Also one thing that separates good players and bad players is playing smart. Try to always get the high ground and the first shot. I personally don't think lonewolves is a good playlist to practice because of the many objective gametypes. Try playing some team slayer.

As for having better aim, that just comes with more gametime

Something Canada will never do.

I do not fear death, in view of the fact that I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it. ~ Mark Twain

Practice using the BR and nades combo, it'll pay off.

best advice possible : don't play lonewolves

It seems that some people love Lone Wolves, and others really hate it, and that this is the same for all the game types, to one degree or another.

My reason for wanting to play Lone Wolves is twofold.

Firstly, I don't have someone to play with in real life to get consistent with, and I don't want to deal with the frustration of a random team member.

Secondly, I like the idea of being a good individual player, more than a good team player. I'd prefer to take people on by myself, and be able to come out on top.
