I know many people want to set up a Dedicated Server on Halo (a dedicated server is a computer that justs hosts a server, benefits include less lag), but don't know how. I'm writing this easy-to-read tutorial so people could learn how to. It's not that hard, but VERY technical.

1. Have a spare computer if you don't want your computer to slow down 90% when your hosting your dedicated server. Make sure it meets the Halo game minimum requierments.
Also you must have high-speed internet (preferably cable) unless if you just want to test, and not have anyone actually play on it.

2. Download the Halo Server client from http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/halo.aspx , go to the bottom of the page, "Enhance It" and select Halo for Windows dedicated Server v1.02.

3. Download the maps for the Halo Server from http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/halo.aspx, go to the bottom of the page, "Enhance It", and select Halo for Windows Dedicated Server MAP Files and extract it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Server\maps.

4. Download the patch for Halo Server from http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/halo.aspx, go to the bottom of the page, "Enhance It", and select Halo for Windows Dedicated Server Update v1.06 and save it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Server. It would overwrite your old .exe file, so confirm that.

4. Configure your game cycle and kicking skills by first reading the Readme, from the Start menu, and then open the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Server\init.txt and if you want all maps CTF, copy this in.

sv_name {name of your server} (no spaces allowed, and it could not be over 15 characters)
sv_public True (makes it appear on Gamespy)
sv_maxplayers 16 (choose how much players you want)
sv_password (password if you want one, or if you dont)
sv_mapcycle_timeout 10 (time between games)
sv_mapcycle_add bloodgulch ctf
sv_mapcycle_add timberland ctf
sv_mapcycle_add damnation ctf
sv_mapcycle_add dangercanyon ctf
sv_mapcycle_add carousel ctf
sv_mapcycle_add gephyrophobia ctf
sv_mapcycle_add infinity ctf
sv_mapcycle_add beavercreek ctf
sv_mapcycle_add boardingaction ctf
sv_mapcycle_add chillout ctf
sv_mapcycle_add deathisland ctf
sv_mapcycle_add hangemhigh ctf
sv_mapcycle_add icefields ctf
sv_mapcycle_add longest ctf
sv_mapcycle_add prisoner ctf
sv_mapcycle_add putput ctf
sv_mapcycle_add ratrace ctf
sv_mapcycle_add sidewinder ctf
sv_mapcycle_add wizard ctf
sv_mapcycle_begin

Switch "ctf" with "slayer" if you want slayer.
Derelict = "carousel"
Chiron TL34 = "putput"

When you configured your mapcycle, its now time to start your dedicated server.

5. Click Start Menu>All Programs (or programs)>Microsoft Games>Halo Server>Dedicated Server, to start it. It is just a DOS command prompt, but what do you expect?

6. You could use your console commands on the command prompt to ban, kick, or unban(kick) or to set up rcon passwords.

7. Have fun with people joining!
