“If I had more skill in what I'm attempting, I wouldn't need so much courage”

***SPOILERS CONTAINED HEREIN***
***PROCEED AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION***

I have recently started to watch SG:U, interestingly enough, I have just finished reading Cryptum. Maybe, I am writing this OP late, but I have seen many convergences of thought and theory based in both respective universes.

Halo, has historically been shown to reflect a bond or similarity between Human, Forerunner and other species in the galaxy. The evolution of the games, through the books and the stored memories of the monitors and data banks of the installations themselves, has taught us that we are but a mere spot in the grand scheme of things. Now, with the secrets of Crytpum being revealed, the order of Earth and Humans, is now shown to span many more years than what was previously know.

/BRIDGE\

SG:U, has now shown that humanity ascended and grown over millions of years and that we seeded the galaxy with the ability to cross the entire universe. In this, we have traveled to other galaxies and clear across the universe in search of a faint trail of supreme constructed intelligence.

Tie both of these together and you have yourself a more than fairly convincing group of theories for a few of the mysteries surrounding Halo.

Thought - The ship Destiny, has been shown to exhibit intelligence and the ability to run simulations that effect the crew aboard. The Forerunner and Precursor have been shown to have the same abilities with their ships.

Thought - There is note of a planet being created by the Ancients, both the Forerunner and Precursor have been known to have the same ability.

Thought - It has been eluded to that the Precursor evolved past the confines of a human body. In SG:1, SG:A and SG:U, the Ancients ascended and became an enigmatic species in the story line.

What is Stargate, it sounds familiar. It sounds cool.

It was until universe came and ruined everything

How do you figure that? Stargate Universe is, in my opinion, the best Stargate show yet! It feels real and gritty and dark, not happy with endless humor and rubber aliens like in SG1 and SGA. While I still like both SG1 and SGA, SGU is far better and believable than the other series.

While I think SGU is the strongest show out of the gate, it unfortunately is trapped in the scenario of unfamiliar characters in an familiar universe. So as a tv show it may be very good, as a Stargate show it feels a little off. However, I don't think that is any justification to cancel the series after only two seasons.

OT: This is actually something that has been true for many years.
Ancients = Forerunners
Wraith = Flood
Goa'uld = Covenant

This. It just doesn't feel like Stargate anymore

Ancients = Forerunners

Goa'uld = Covenant

I just noticed how fitting that final comparison is.

Both were massive empires that few could oppose, both were surprised/annoyed at how fiercely the humans fought back, and both were toppled when their main armies learned the truth/turned against them.

“If I had more skill in what I'm attempting, I wouldn't need so much courage”

Indeed. The comparison is spot on, but what about the Precursor? How would they fit into the comparison?

Maybe...

Ancients = Precursor
___________ = Forerunner
Wraith / or another species = Flood
and most definitely concur on the fact that Goa'uld = Covenant

I can't really put my finger on it, but somehow, all this seems to fit together...maybe in SG we have yet to see the rise of the Spartans...but all in all, SG and the Halo series, seem to have many convergences of similarity. Or perhaps, they just copied and worked off each others history and futures and broke it into each one respectively.

I enjoy halo for it's story and when I am in the mood, its gameplay. Reach was significantly worse then I expected but was still a great game (minus the european hitscan fiasco). I am sitting on a two mile wide fence on the subject of halo 4. Most of the things I like a technical aspects though and not story or game play. Plus I am slightly mad they took my elites from MP.

@medic152

The Azgard are equivelant to forerunner I think, just less expansive and technicly there are two flood equivelants in stargate if you count the insectoid replicators as a flood equivelant. Personnaly I beleive they should have refleshed the Goa'uld to be more religous and give them the feel they should of had i.e. the goa'uld ACTUALLY beleiving that they have the right to mistreat people not this I am gonna hurt you bacause I want to!

So to finish here is the updated diagram:
Ancients=Precursor
Azgard=Forerunner
Wraith+Insectoid Replicators=Flood
Goa'uld=Covenant

Actually, I don't think the Precursors fit anywhere into this discussion.
The Ancients and Forerunners as well as the Wraith and Flood are spot on comparisons.

Think about it. The Ancients and Forerunners were both massively advanced societies that built an empire across the galaxy, both are implied to have some very loose evolutionary connection to Humans (maybe the Ancients more than the Forerunners, but you get the idea), and both were eventually wiped out by relatively simple parasitic organisms (the Wraith being the descendants of a hybrid of humans and those bug things) because the invading parasite had vastly superior numbers.

I think it is no secret that Bungie likes to copy other stuff.
Visual design of Halo CE = Aliens
Halo 3: ODST = Dante's Inferno
The overal back story of Halo = The Christian Bible.

So I'm sure Bungie took some of the ideas about the Ancients and put them into the Forerunners, as well as the Goa'uld and Covenant, but that kind of falls apart with the Wraith and Flood, seeing as how Stargate Atlantis didn't start until 2004.

“If I had more skill in what I'm attempting, I wouldn't need so much courage”

Very interesting...regarding the last two responses. But, how can you say the Precursor have no relevant basis in the comparison? Maybe, I am just looking at things in from the wrong perspective, but, the Precursor, were here long before the Forerunner, at as far as we know, they "evolved" past the need for corporeal bodies (tier 5 advancement), had the capability to create worlds and advance species evolution...just as the Ancients are eluded to having. Perhaps I am wrong, just a thought. However, in all regards, this is damn near spot on to everything...but is there connection? As in, is there things, hints or "easter eggs" hidden among the games and the tv series...or just fanciful imagination?

@Spartan999 - good call on that, but then again...H3 didnt release until 2007, there was plenty of time to be able to work things into all stories.

Moreover, I am almost 99.354% certain that there is no connection other than simple coincidence and mere technical similarity. Point in case - Starship Troopers - the AR looks mighty close to that gun. But, we all knew that from the start, and that released back in what circa 1997.

Addendum -
But....maybe, there was some back story between everyone...bread crumbs if you will. That somehow really do tie in all story lines.

I am going to have to avoid reading your post. I got a couple of sentences in and realized that there might be some spoilers for me, as I only started reading Cryptum last night.

So any real discussion of the Precursors is over my head at this moment.
