We all remember when the opening cutscene was released for Halo: Reach, it was an epic opening trailer, and everything that was said seemed perfect. But they did change one thing from that release, to when the game actually came out, and it bugs me.

In the original video, as they step onto the pelican, you hear Jun say "You picked a hell of a day to join up." It went real well, and flowed perfectly. In the actual game, he instead says, "Welcome to Reach." and it just sounds too choppy and out of place. Its a shame that they changed it, i much rathered the original version.

Original version
Actual Game

Oh and a couple of other interesting changes I noticed between these two.
Carter himself actually seems to change, idk if its the actual face, or just the hair.
Jun now has his helmet off when he is loading ammo into his mag, and also the dialog when Six first enters is changed.

Just some interesting things i noticed when i saw the original video and the ingame video side by side.

PEANUT-BUTTER SLAP!

On that note, Jun sometimes says "I told you you picked a hell of a day" (or something close) during gameplay.

Brains beats brawn get used to it

Fear the Red Comet

Variety is the spice of life.
Long live games.
Death to all fanboys.

The original dialogue would not have made sense in the final product.

"You picked a hell of a day to join up"

That sure as hell seems appropriate given that nothing exciting is happening...

Now if they incorporated that line later in the game, it would've been neat. For example at the end of Winter Contingency as Jun and Six walk out of the comm station, or if Jun made a quip like to Six after they report in to Kat at the end of Nightfall as the screen fades to black. That would've been an appropriate time to put a line such as that...

Signatures are for squares.

The "hell of a day to join up" line worked because at the time we still believed Reach fell in a day.

When they changed it, the line no longer fits as well.

I think he says "You picked a hell of a day to join up." in nightfall gameplay (Not sure if IWHBYD is needed or not, I usually have it on regardless.)

Edit: I remember him saying it a few times during my playthroughs...

Argumentum ad populum

That line would not have made much sense in the actual game as they didn't know Reach was being invaded by the Covenant yet. They thought they were just going to check a relay outpost that was damaged by rebels, and they were going to run a counter-insurgancy op, what they have been training for their entire lives.

the first version was so much better.the "I'm carter, that's kat, noble 2, emile, jorge, 4 and 5" really made me cringe. And also, the story that went on in the vga version was much better. The fact that you're suspecting innie activity is the dumbest -blam!- ever.

First version was worse in the lines part.

Six walks into what is clearly a briefing, only to turn around and walk out?(Without a briefing.)

Anyway, how is 'suspecting rebels' stupid?

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

That briefing was obviously unfinished in the first version.
Also, Bungie switches things like that up all of the time, only for it to be less awesome, of course. Just watch the playthrough of the Halo 2 demo at E3 '03, or the infamous Master Chief walk with the assault rifle in Halo 3 (compared to the 2006 teaser).

It would've been better if the game started out fighting against rebels, then they eventually join in on fighting the Covenant. It would represent how having a common enemy is unifying.

That would have been interesting, and you do side with some 'rebel' elements in nightfall.

I'm just not seeing how that guy thinks Holland suspecting rebels in the relay going dark is stupid <_<

I had my qualms with the beginning level, but if it had been built around the idea of rebels then it could be something really interesting.

Six looks shinier in the trailer.

Something like: SLaughtering rebels until the covvies arrive, covvies annihilate the rebels while Noble Team gets away.

Not everywhere on Reach was heavy military bases. I think they mentioned before rebels were on the planet, just not doing much of anything.

I mean, would it have been better for them to go "We think the Covenant have taken out this relay, so go check it out!" Not really.

Don't get me wrong, that would have been awesome, but it seems that Bungie doesn't like having the player shoot at humans. The only humans you are ever allowed to shoot are either infected by the Flood or Spartans. Even as the Arbiter, when you encounter Marines before forming an alliance they register as friendly.

That huge covvie ship must've cleared some tech to get to Reach undetected.
