The Elites weren't the only ones to join in on the "save the galaxy train", you know. We were going to have other species to fight with us, but Bungie decided that players would get confused! That is also why they dropped the concept of fighting rebels in Reach.

Bungie appreciates our understanding of the Halo storyline.

What a waste....

That would have just screwed up Reach even more.

Pretend there were hunters and grunts around, they just weren't present near the Chief.

... do keep in mind you only ever fight alongside the sepratists once on the Ark.

I must admit I did think it was a shame we didn't fight alongside Hunters or Grunts in Halo 3. I thought it would have been great to see a Pelican loaded up with Marines and Grunts, or an Albatross drop down and unload a bunch of Hunters.

I think it could have been pulled off. In Halo 2 we fought against Heretic Elites and Grunts whilst accompanied by normal Elites and Grunts and I never had a problem distinguishing between the two groups.

Bungie most likely got a lot of hate-mail from the mothers of confused youngsters because of that, so they simplified it.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I think having Hunters as allies would have made the game too easy, considering the fact that the A.I. tends to be dumb, they wouldn't hit them on the back, thus, allowing the Hunters to sandwich them with their humongous shields of doom.

Or it would be the fact the grunt combat harness wouldn't change, thus you would have friendly and enemy grunts wearing the exact same armor.

That and as another person said, hunter allies could make portions of the game far too easy.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I remember New Mombassa when Halo 2 released, there were a massive heap of hate threads because we played as the Arbiter in Halo 2 and not just the Chief all the way.

Personally I thought the Halo 2 Campaign was the best so far.

Don't shoot the Grunts with friendly tags. Easy peasy.

I'm sure they could work it out like they did in Halo 2.

I agree. It would have made much more sense from a story continuity perspective, seeing as how the Grunts and Hunters were friendly in H2. I would have liked to have even seen a few elite enemies in H3, to have them fighting each other as much as fighting Truth. It makes sense that not all of them would accept that the Prophets betrayed them.

And as for fighting rebels in Reach like the OP mentioned, we fight human enemies alongside human allies all the time in other games. I don't think I've ever gotten confused there.

Honestly, I think Bungie's "it would confuse players" excuse is just another way of saying "it would too much work to create that much extra enemy AI, combat dialogue, etc." After all, didn't Bungie also try to explain Halo's recurring problem of abysmal friendly AI by saying they wanted the player to do all the work?

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Fighting rebels on Reach would have been cool

My explanation for no hunters or grunts in Halo 3 is that most were killed in the battle around high charity and the quarantine of the flood after that and also the separatist fleet that went to onyx was destroyed. So because the elites that you see in the game are backed up by marines, odsts', the chief and the arbiter the why would you need grunts or hunters. Marines are better than grunts and the chief and the arbiter are better than hunters. Also Johnson owns everyone.
