Subject: Do we just... Want the Chief back?

7even is Darker

I know bungie wont be making any new halo titles in the near future, but lets be honest, did everyone just want to be the chief again the past few years? the rookie was bleh, 4 hours isnt enough time to become attached to a mute character, especially when you jump around as other ODST's for over half of it, and N6, he was cool, I liked the personalization and how they really tried to make it YOUR spartan, but...

We know so much about the chief, hes the perfect hero, those who want to learn more about him can read the novels and see he's a great character, we went through an epic space trilogy as him, hes really great.

Who just wants to be the chief again in a new halo title?

"Only the Fallen are Heroes, while the ones who still stand are villains"

I say let the man REST for heaven's sake. Saving galaxy 1 time is enough for retirement with benefits and those benefits are not being forced to saving the galaxy AGAIN!
Let more take up the role of Paragon. Hes done enough, seen enough and killed enough. Let the man rest.

Wake me, when you need me.

I need him.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Not really. The Rookie was more of an observer, so I understand his popularity being low. However, Six was a fresh breath of air.

When the going gets tough, whine and groan and complain, then post a thread on the flood about how tough the going is and flame anyone who disagrees.

Halochief partly shares my view. Chief is cool, he did save the galaxy (with help), but it's time for other hero's.

I used to think he was the most awesome character ever, but when Six came along and I noticed all this anti S3 master chief hero worship, that pushed me from him.

If Chief returns, I don't want him shown as an unstoppable force. I want him shown to have the difficulties he had as a team leader working alone. I want to see his troubles.

Rookie was okay, loved the amount of hate he got for "Not responding to Dare." when people failed to notice he was mute for same reasons as Lucy.

Yeah. We'll see him, eventually. I just want his return to not be wasted. Give him something great to do, again. Hope Cortana doesn't expire, their interaction is unique.

He isn't mute, he talks in Dirt(Evolutions.) And I'm not sure if mute people can whistle a tune, like the Rookie does on DataHive.

Anyway, I want more Chief. He's the hero of the Halo series. He's someone I want more time with. He hasn't been in the last THREE Halo games. We haven't seen him in game(exclude that easteregg on PoA.) in the last four years.

He's had his rest, it's time to continue his story.

I do, I mean the chief nwas completely awsome

  • 03.04.2011 7:40 AM PDT

I know I want him back. He's not a terribly exciting character but he is Halo. ODST and Reach were alright but lacked the aura the Chief brought to the series. And at least he had a well fleshed-out backstory, unlike the shyte-fest that was Noble Team.

Hopefully 343 will do the right thing and unseal the hushed casket.

Did we ever get confirmation that the Rookie from Dirt is the same Rookie from ODST?

Dirt takes place in the battle where his entire company was wiped out, him being the only survivor. Hence mute for same reasons as Lucy (Post-traumatic stress).

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." -Johnny Cash

We've played three games as him, we're attacthed to the characters from those games, so it's obvious that I want to play as the Chief again. More than that, I just want to see what happens to him because right now he's just drifting in space around some random planet.

The Dirt Rookie and the Halo 3 ODST Rookie have never been confirmend to be the same person.

Yes it was.

The novella was a set up as a classical tragedy (everyone who's a major character dies except for the guy who frames the story, who is the recruit from ODST, I was trying to write this to flesh him out a bit for fans).

  • 03.04.2011 8:59 AM PDT

*Shrug* It is strongly hinted at.

Unless it was a cover up. Besides, I don't fully trust that source.

Yes, because a source that has Buckell confirming that you're wrong is obviously unreliable.

  • 03.04.2011 9:23 AM PDT

I'm likely going to get some flack from the MC worshipers, but I don't give a rats -blam- about MC. Many other characters in the series I liked much more than MC (Johnson, the Arbiter, and Rtas are my top three, in no specific order) and would rather have more material on them than him.

Yup!
Also: leaving his end a mystery is better fitting. Exploring what will be next for Chief will just end up in a dissapointment because we WANT something to happen, and THINK that it will happen, but it might not even be the case.

Just let Chief be...

You can't honestly be that daft, can you?

You're saying the man who wrote the story, isn't a reliable source?

Ok.

  • 03.04.2011 12:14 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

This is why Chief should have died at the end of Halo 3 IMO. I didn't want Chief to just "Start a new fight" whenever Micro$oft wants.
