I just checked my internet speed here and I got my results here . however, when i allow players to join to match my speed, I get pings up to 1000, even though my server speed is fast. what can I do to prevent lag?

IE = Internet Explorer, the WORST browser on the face of the planet.

Seriously, look into Firefox.

And to answer your question, you should probably cap it 2 below whatever it recommends for your speed (Mine recommends 8, but I only allow 6 people for a game)

Firefox has tabbed browsing, and isn't a security risk to your computer. Plus built in popup blocker, and instant access to google, yahoo, and many more search engines. Its fast too.

Yeah i have both and i think that IE is faster in loading up the pics. I never had a problem with IE ever since i downloaded service pack 2. Anay sry to hijack your thread here pal, but i think you can run a server with 6 people. or 8 if you wanan go wild.

how good is your computer? with my computer i have 2.8ghz, 512mb ram, and high speed internet and i can have 16 players but with some lag last time a had that i think the pings were around 200-300 but i think i can have 8-10 people with everyone under 100 ping as long as there is no 56Kers.

Thats cause you didn't multipipeline firefox. You basicaly need around 25-40 Kilobytes per second per person. Your rating is in kilobits, so divide by 8 and you have it in kilobytes

Dual 3.8ghz Xeon Processors
2 GB RAM
207.20 Kbps internet connection

The above is what I have, and it easily supports 6 players without lag. I keep the max at 6 just in case.

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

On the Mac I use Safari. Some pages don't display properly in Safari, so I switch to IE. I've tried FireFox and it's slow compared to Safari or IE and has as many if not more problems displaying problematic pages.
