Why do you assume Microsoft does it for the money? Sony has ten times more money, your point?
Isn't that the purpose of a company, to make money?Yeah, but when the money becomes before the consumer, then there is a huge problem.
For example, why does Microsoft need an extra $10 per year for XBOX Live when they are one of the top grossing companies in the world and make several billion dollars per year?
There are many examples in Halo history where Microsoft obviously makes decisions on money rather than consumers.
Remember in Halo 2 when the maps got old enough they all went free? Microsoft made the decision to make one map pack free and one map remake free with Halo 3. The other 9 maps you still have to pay for even today. All the decisions come down to Microsoft for when they are released. They release them when it's the most beneficial to them, even if that means the it comes at the price of the Halo fans convenience.
If any of you are an avid listner to the podcast, you would know that the Mythic maps (part 1 and 2) had been made and competely finished for 12 months before the initial Mythic DLC Part 1 release. They waited for the release of Ensemble's (Microsoft owned company) Halo Wars Limited Edition so that they could play them a little earlier than the other people that didn't buy it, hoping that people would buy it for just that reason. The LE was about 89(?).
Part 2 came out 18 months later, being released with Halo 3: ODST Multiplayer Disc. They also made it where the only way to play the Halo: Reach beta was to buy Halo 3:ODST (the same deal with Crackdown and Halo 3 beta, which is also a Mircosoft owned title). The maps did not officially come out for DLC several months later.
My point is, that MS tries to get dedicated Halo fans to pay as much as they can to benefit them. Bungie cares more about the community before the costs. I'm sure Bungie had battled Microsoft to try to do what's right for the fans, so I can't imagine what's going to happen after it is completely controlled by Microsoft.
So in short, Bungie cares about the community, Microsoft likes money, Halo = money, Microsoft will try to make as much money from Halo as possible when it's completely in their hands.
