Subject: Recognition of the Elites former prominence

This forum is to discuss and commemorate the Elites former glory.

I'm sure we all remember the thrill the first time we fought Elites Halo CE, fighting though the corridors of The Pillar of Autumn, watching them ducking and diving in their shiny combat harnesses. Then learning to respect and admire their tenacity and ability as warriors (particularly on legendary!) (particularly the black spec-ops Elites!!). But I feel that the Elites have not been given their legendary due recently; firstly we had the Elite campaign taken off us in Halo 3, then they had a practical non-appearance in ODST now finally in Halo Reach they are back with vengeance (thankfully!) but they are all wearing funny hats and sporting odd armour colours and names.

So this Forum is to share our memorys and celebrate one of Bungie's greatest creations - the Elite. Please post anything you like relivant to them =]

Love Zulu x

Oops. I think I just lost your mind.

While Elites are undeniably badass, I don't understand people who prefer the original's Elites over Reach's Elites. I think more Elites killed themselves by rolling off bridges on AotCR and T2B than were killed by me.

I find the Elites in CE to be more "real" than in Reach.

Allow me to explain. In Reach, their movement is completely random, and jerky. Instead of being more aggressive in general, both in weapon discharge rate and physical behaviour, their guns just do way more damage and melees are 1-hit KO. Not even melee or grenade throwing are fluid movements.

  • 03.05.2011 10:32 PM PDT

Yeah I agree, they where much more cool to fight and fight with in Halo CE, 2, 3. The mele atack, for isntance has turned from a beautiful arking swing down to a poke for halo reach, why?

As for roleing off bridges, yeah that was a funny fault but still why is sacraficing everything thats Elite about them to "fix" it good? when they still do it occationaly lol

By giving enemy AI cheap advantages (mostly seen in Brutes in a attempt to make them like Elites (i.e. Halo 2 Brutes can take a lot of damage, Reach Brutes can't be assassinated if they have seen you, Halo 3 Brute Chieftains, War Chieftains can't be stuck, needler projectile disappears upon impact with their power shield and armor, making supercombines on them impossible), but also seen in increased damage, damage resistance, and shield resistance for enemies) Bungie has worsened them (mainly Elites and Brutes) with each Halo game, and with Reach.

They should have stuck with the melee range being long (you can't go around Elites after they melee like you can with Halo 3 Brutes) and focused on AI intelligence and evasiveness and perhaps stealth.

Observe AI effectiveness after modding (it would have been better if I had done it with a Elite Major. They don't charge at you). Notice how the Zealot simply moves to the left or right.

The Jackals scared me much more than Elites did. Weird, I know. Not to degrade the original Elites in any way, though.

Weird- I thought I was the only one nearly paralyzed by fear of jackals. On legendary I found them to be more dangerous than blue or red elites. I would save frag grenades specifically for jackal encounters.
Over the years I found strategies to counter that wussy shield of theirs, but I lost my innocence in doing so.

I didn't fear the Jackals, but I did dislike them immensely after trying to shoot them in the arm then the head only to damage them because of their shields and their wounded animation. I always felt that I was wasting ammo on them.

Sounds disturbing. What do you mean by "lost my innocence"?

l;abhrfiodj!!

I will never forget one time on legendary a wrath was close to being defeated... one more rocket would do it! Then as I fired an Elite jumped and summersaulted right into the rocket sacrificing himself and sparing the tank giving it enough time to lob a mortar into my face. lol

I was being serious.. There's just something about the Jackals that creep me out. They aren't scary as in bad ass, but they are more scary as in that creepy goth kid that cuts his wrists in the hallways.

He must have been boned by a few Jackals on his way to finishing AotCR.

Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

Reach was the only game other than CE to show the Elites any proper respect, but I still think the CE Elites were worse. While the Reach Elites may have been "smart" they were not overly dangerous as Chicken pointed out. I can't even count how many times in CE those damn Elites came after me, chasing me through corridors or accross open terrain, preventing my shields from recharging, only to land a killing blow and laugh at me.

Good times.

If I had a Rocket Launcher...

Shut up and get behind me... Sir!

The cable. I'm going to cut it.

Awesomeness would ensue.

To be honest, the most dangerous part of Halo were the Marines who decided to hop onto a Ghost, rather than Elites.

Elites in Reach felt a bit more powerful, but that's because they were truly superior to you: Better Shields, faster, stronger, and their weapons were especially deadly to you regardless of difficulty.

Oh I know the meaning of the word. I just don't know which definition you're talking about.

I feel the same way about those Marines. I personally felt that the best (Elites that were the most fun to fight) were the Elites in CE. They gave you a challenge, a hit wasnt an instant kill, they laugh at you when you die, you could stick them. Oh the good Elites.

The jackals don't shoot at him anymore because he banged the Jackal queen.....okay? We all told him not to but he did.

Anyway, on topic, I'm still shocked by the etite's smarts in CE, now they just have increased speed.

  • 03.15.2011 10:15 PM PDT

Fear the Unicorn

Elites in CE were boss, Reachs sissy Elites jump around like there a kid with a bee in the room, although I have to say CE elites were too skinny. I think the smarts of CE and the sxypecs of Reach elites and they would be they most badass alien ever ( not that they already arent).

I'm telling you... those Gold Elites with Plasma Rifle's were insane bullet sponges. I remember the legions of them on The Two Betrayals.

"Into the Belly of the Beast" also became the hardest section thanks to the Golden sword elites.
