Subject: Halo Wars 2 - Release Plausible

I've been thinking about Halo Wars 2 and come to the conclusion that a release is possible. And even been thinking about a logical release date.

Halo Wars was a great game, in my opinion the most entertaining RTS game out there. But when you come to think of it, it's not the gameplay that made it a huge success, it was for the fact that it was a Halo game.

Now, if Halo Wars 2 was ever to be released, it would most likely be tied close to another Halo game release.
I'm doubting we will see Halo Wars 2 as a "standalone", but rather Microsoft will build up on the Halo brand and get another hype started. So that they could maximize the potential in marketing success and sales.

Halo Wars was released a between 2 big Halo titles, Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. Everyone was excited about Halo and even people who had never played RTS games bought Halo Wars just for the "Halo" untop.

So, in my opinion. If we are ever going to see another Halo Wars title, it's going to be close to a release of another Halo title.

That's why I played the demo, which led me to getting the game. If Halo Wars was not Halo, I doubt I would have even considered that game. Even so, the gameplay was still fun and pretty good. I think it needs improvement, but still good. It introduced me to RTS strategy games. Now, I love 'em. I think it'd be awesome to have a Halo Wars 2 and an ODST 2.

Friends before pixels.

I'd like it, but Micro$oft has milked the series too much.

Let it rest.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I would love a Halo Wars 2, but I see it pretty hard for the game to make a return, especially after Ensemble broke up.

The game also had one of the best CGI cutscenes ever!

It broke up and pretty much all the employees made a new studio right then and there <_<.

If Halo Wars 2 came out, I want one major thing, able to choose colors in skirmish. No more "Player color is based on race and number of players."

Splazers hate me.

If Halo Wars 2 comes out, it better be tested and just better overall. On the surface, its a decent game, but it really isn't a top quality rts. Most features were great, but there were balance issues(unresolved) and tons of bugs(I don't think all of them got fixed). That and the fact that it sold big because people thought it was an fps.

Halo Wars is an amazing game and all it's content has been perfected out. However, it does not have that much content... So it's lacking in terms of content, not the actual quality. So it gets simple / boring fast.

However it's still one of the few RTS games, if not the only RTS game, were you can set back, relax and have fun with your friends without being all serious about everything.

Games like Starcraft require constant focus and 100% dedication to the game to succeed, this is not necessary in Halo Wars which makes it simple and fun!

As I said in my first post, Halo wars IMO is the most entertaining RTS game, maybe not the best... But it's fun to play. Although I love other RTS games, almost all of them are solo based, rather then having fun with your friends...

Halo Wars isn't a 'top quality' RTS compared to something like Starcraft or anything on the computer.

However, it IS the 'top quality' RTS for console.

Lol, seriously?

Even though there were demos, screenshots, videos, interviews, and generally a big deal around the game because of the fact that it was the first NON-FPS Halo game?

That's ridiculous.

Also, 343i wants to release a Halo game every year, so they'll probably rope in a bunch of developers to make a bunch of different Halo games and have them release a year apart from eachother. So someone will likely make a HW2.

I thought 343i said that M$ wanted them to milk a game every year, but they refused to do so or something...?

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I was really satisfied by Halo Wars, it brought back some memories from the Classics like Age of Empires while adding a Sci-Fi twist that only Halo can give and I do hope that it gets a sequel, besides, I got the achievement ready for a sequeeeeel.

Halo Wars is one of my favourite games on the Xbox 360. It's not as deep as some RTS games on the PC but simplicity isn't always a bit thing.

The game is easy enough to play on the console with a wonderful control scheme and yet it's also just deep enough to let you formulate strategies.

Cobra blockade on The Docks = unstoppable. Seriously. Then you just have Wolverines by the partition to prevent air-attack.

Scandinavian Master Race!

A sequel would have been sweet.

More units, Covenant campaign, bigger multiplayer maps, add theater, add a full fledged map maker, third playable race(flood or forerunner.), more gametypes like ffa and ctf, better path finding especially for tanks, different base building(an example would be that you have to have a barrack and a field armory before you can build a vehicle depo.).

Just some small ideas I have. :)

I am a practicing traditional Catholic.

I'd love them to and so would Ensemble (now Robot). The more Halo games the better I.M.O.

Canada isn't that important that it needs two of the same threads on page one.

They need to add the ability to make your own maps to play on. Or just make it like AoE2 with Halo. Just like Star Wars: Battle Grounds.

Just happened to read this article which mentions Halo Wars 2

Not confirming it at all, but at least 343i might consider it.
Also: Kinect controls might be considered! Thank God! I've been asking for a game like that for ages.

Motion + voice controls are potentially just as great as mouse and keyboard, and definatly one step further than the good old controller. Kinect needs a blockbuster game like Halo Wars, and Halo Wars needs a sequel, preferably with something to make it more special (I loved the original, as it resembled good old Age of Empires 2 a lot, but it needs a unique selling point other than being a Halo game).

Halo Wars + Kinect could be as revolutionary as Halo CE was for the console-FPS subgenre.

I'd say bring it on!

  • 03.05.2011 10:49 AM PDT

I want more factions!

Flood, covy, unsc and sentinals(Okay... maybe not Sentinals) should be in halo wars 2 as playable factions!

Could be, but only Bungie could pull it off...
What would be even more revolutionizing = Kinect + Controller

Ehm...no?
Because last time Bungie ever made a RTS was well back in the 90's. Ensemble Studios was great when it came down to RTS games, having made the Age of Empires series and Age of Mythology, which are mostly top notch classic RTS games.

Kinect + Controller would work fine. But the whole point is that RTS games are the most suitable standard genre for a complete "no controller at all" make over...If 343i could pull that off with a Halo Wars 2, you can expect a lot of devs to copy that concept, because:
a: that is what Kinect is made for: replace the controller
b: its more revolutionary than falling back to the controller

  • 03.05.2011 11:13 AM PDT

Yes it is spelt like that on purpose.

I liked Halo Wars as well and thought it did really well for what it was trying to do. That being a RTS on a console, probably the best one I have ever played on a console. Don't get me wrong it's no Starcraft but it's definitly better then any other RTS on a console I have played. The gameplay was fairly simple, the controls worked, and it was a blast to play with friends.

If Halo Wars 2 were to be made I would prefer the fine folks who once made up Ensemble to make it, but that is doubtful. That being said I would hope 343i could do a good job at it. But we have little to no idea what they are up to, so for now I am not going to get my hopes up on the idea.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

Seeing how the next book in the forerunner saga is going to deal with the shield worlds i have a large feeling that halowars is going to go from "un-canon" (and the game is canon) and "crappy" to being mindblowing once the importance and backstory is explained. Hell, i should probably made a thread on that.
