If bungie is making a space MMO i know they said they weren't but if they were to save disk space especially for a console they could borrow a page from assassins creed. When your loading up in the animus and you can endlessly run around as Desmond in a white space of nothing bungie could use this but instead of it being white lines it could be space. This would mean although you are technically going nowhere a massive amount of disk space is saved instead of mapping out every individual piece of space. Objects such as planets which are in fixed positions in the online world can be tracked distance wise relevant to the player meaning if a planet is a certain distance away from the planet it is loaded into the game, once the load is complete the player will then be able to see the planet as a small dot in the horizon. The player will not recognise the load and it creates a massive if not endless amount of play space. To keep things interesting you could obviously load in enemies at times or whatever else to keep the gameplay fun like deserted ships to explore and asteroids on a collision course ect. This idea can of course only really be used in space as there is no real detail to go into the surrounds apart from dust clouds and stars however the idea might be able to be used for water to endless sail on until you reach some land. Just an idea i had don't know if anybody has ever done this in practical terms or implemented it in a game. Does anybody know if this kind of thing has been done before?
