"What do I think of Western Civilization? I think it would be a good idea." - Mahatma Gandhi

I have a $50 Best Buy gift-card that I can use to buy whatever I want. For the sake of having all the Halo games, I was considering buying Halo 3: ODST. However, I am not so desperate as to sacrifice my money for a game that MIGHT be of abysmal quality.

What course of action do you recommend I take? Is ODST a good game? What can I expect from it?

Additionally, I heard that one gets an another CD in the ODST CD case that has all the H3 maps and map packs on it. Is this true? If so, then can someone tell me how the conditions on Halo 3 matchmaking are? I was planning to finish all the achievements for Halo 3, since, for the first time ever, I managed to convince my parents to buy me a 1-year Xbox-Live subscription on December 31, 2010 (I had Halo 3 on the DAY it came out but could never get all the achievements since I didn't have XBL).

Half of the time I'm dead serious.
The other half not so much.

Yeah, ODST includes a separate disk with all of the Halo 3 maps, including the DLC ones. However, there are not many people that still play Halo 3, and all of the the ones that still play are die-hard veterans, with barely and n00bs. So, matchmaking is a lot harder to get achievements in, but you're welcome to try.
As for the ODST game, the campaign is okay and the firefight mode is moderate as well. If the game is 30 dollars or less, then you should definately get it.

ODST is not too bad, if you have friends to play with then Firefight can be REALLY fun (2-4 player on Lost Platoon especially). Campaign is quite good, though the order of the missions annoys me (a lot of back and forth, especially for achievements).

Yup, it is true that you get all multiplayer maps for Halo 3. As far as I've seen, it's still possible to find a game in any playlist on Halo 3, but sometimes it takes a while.

I'd personally buy ODST again if my disc broke or something, but that's pretty much solely due to the fact that I play Firefight semi-regularly with friends, which is the most fun I've had on any Halo game in a while.

I have been playing Halo since Halo 1, so I hope getting achievements on Halo 3 won't be too much of a problem.

The downside is that I recently moved = no one to play with. D:

Recon armor was not gifted or bestowed upon me. I earned it through blood, sweat, and tears. Road to Recon complete, on to the next challenge. Halo 3: 1750/1750, ODST: 1000/1000, Reach: 1400/1400.

Halo: Reach is modeled after ODST more than it is Halo 3. If you can solo Reach on Legendary then you'll have no problem doing it in ODST. You can also set the controls to be the same as Reach's.

It took me a little while to get used to ODST but once I did I absolutely fell in love with it. I now prefer it over Halo 3. If you're an achievement nut like I am then the challenge alone is worth it.

Whether by boosting or doing it legit I had a blast getting the Halo 3 multiplayer achievements and met some great friends along the way. The Halo 3 community pretty much consists of the die hards who refuse to accept the changes made in Reach. Just make some friends and you'll have people to help you out.

The ODST forum here is pretty much a classifieds ad for people looking to get the Road to Recon done. Just answer some of the requests here. Just make sure you have good crew chemistry. Playing with an idiot who can't follow orders or stick to the strategy won't get you anywhere.

If you're a hardcore die-hard (I'd shoot myself if Master Chief told me so) Halo fan. I suggest you get it. It's a really fun game and offers a style of play that non of the other Halos do. The game also has a great atmosphere and the story of the game is told in a very cool way.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I will buy ODST as soon as Spring Break arrives.

As for Halo 3, are the matchmaking games really laggy? How long does it take to find a match? What are the most played gametypes? How many players can I expect in each gametype?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

If you like Halo's story, then buy it. If you're more of a multiplayer person, then don't. (Firefight is very, very fun, but there's no matchmaking for it.)
