People seem to forget that hitboxes aren't the be all and end all of a Halo game.
Sure, Halo 2 has massive hitboxes and magnetism but Halo 3 has the AR charge and retarded melee system.
Sure, the sniper was easy in Halo 2, but Reach's isn't all that much harder to use. It has a healthy dose of auto-aim. Players are sluggish. Easy pickings, non?
Halo CE most definitely required the most skill. But, as we all know, that game was intended for splitscreen / LAN and so did not require magnetism etc.
Halo 2 was intended for LIVE and so the basic principle of hit detection was 'noobified.'
It was perhaps a little over-compensatory, but the fast pacing of the game still sorted the wheat from the chaff.
There was no B.S like the Spartan Laser, equipment or Missile Pod to get in the way of the flow of the game, or to give any one player such an advantage as to render entire elements of the game obsolete.
There was no B.S like Armour Abilities or a flawed bloom system to increase the random aspects of gameplay.
Halo 2 may have been much easier than CE in terms of hit detection or magnetism, but it was the last Halo in which the better player was sure to win.
TL;DR It takes more than aim assist to 'noobify' a game.
