I looked at this already. I want to know what odsts make a squad.

  • 03.06.2011 2:36 AM PDT

From what I have seen in various Halo media, I can conclude the following about the makeup of an ODST squad.

Squad consists of 6-8 members, slipt into fireteams of 3-4.
Customisation of armour is limited, only "elite" squads (such as that in ODST) gets personal customisations outside of what can be provided by the UNSC (flashlights, VISR, UA helmet attachments...)

Weapons are, in a 6-man squad;
4 Battle rifles,
1 Assault rifle or sniper rifle,
1 M247 or similar machine gun.

Secondary, mission specific weapons would be;
4-5 SMGs or Shotguns,
1 Grenade launcher or Rocket launcher
All members are equipped with a knife and an M6 of some variety with limited ammo as a last resort weapon.

These can be changed dependant on mission.

3-4 sqauds to a platoon, 3-4 platoons to a company and so on.

You understand that unlike in the games, a "medic" is a "combat unit" right? With first aid being a secondary skill that happens to come in handy.

Thanks for your help guys. Thats all the info I need.

my guess as to squad composition of ODST'

6-8 members
in and 8 member squad
Gunnery Sergeant or Staff Sergeant in charge (this is the MC remember)
Staff Sergeant or Sergeant in charge of each fireteam
minimum rank in squad is PFC average rank is Lance Corporal/Corporal
Master Sergeant in charge of 2-3 squads
1st LT or Captain as Platoon Commander (4-5 squads per platoon)

in a urban combat mission such as New Mombassa weapons carried in a sqaud are

3 members with M7 SMG's suppressed or unsuppressed
2 members using BR55's or M392 DMR's
1 member using a SRS99 sniper weapon
1 member with a M6 spartan laser or M41 Rocket Launcher as a secondary (SMG user)
1 member with a MA5C/MA5B assualt rifle in lieu of a m247 MG
6 members carrying M6 type pistol sidearms
1 member with a M90 type Shotgun secondary (one of the BR or DMR users)

in a more open environment like city outskirts (think Halo 3's Tsavo Highway)

2 members using MA5B/MA5C AR's
3 members using BR55's
1 member using either M6 spartan Laser or M41 Rocket Launcher (again secondary for a SMG user)
1 member using a SRS99 sniper weapon
1 member carrying a M90 type shotgun secondary (AR or BR user)
6 members carrying M6 type pistol sidearm
1 member with a M247L GPMG (the one Sgt. Johnson has in the level Cairo Station)

among each squad each soldier has a specialty, not just in a specific weapon but also in field trades

Squad leader
2ic (second in command)- shotgun user, breacher
Sniper/long range recon
Designated Driver
Radio Op/communications specialist/FO (fire observer)
Medic (not a designated Corpsmen)
Heavy Weapons
Demolitions/Explosives expert

all members are required to carry at least one knife

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Well, in Halo Wars they all have Shotgun´s and have a medic that heals the squad after combat...

You are missing the MA2B and the MA5K. Both of which are used by Spec Ops forces.

I thought the MA5K were only used by or more commonly used only by Spartan III´s...?

They are a stripped down variant for Spec Ops soldiers. Both ODST's and Spartan III's fit the bill.

Besides, why develope a gun only for infantry who were mostly intended for suicidal missions?

True, but then for a reason it was a stripped down version, making it cheaper to produce than the standard MA5B.

Weird. ODST´s are my secound favorite thing in Halo, and I have never heard them using MA5K´s. Only Spartan III´s, but I guess the whole Spec-Ops, add´s the ODST´s in them too.

I didn't refer to any specific varent of each weapon for that reason actually. Someone, Somewhere would decide I was wrong. :P

I always figured that the ODSTs would want a harder hitting weapon, the BR or DMR for example, than an AR. Both because they operate in smaller units, and to conserve ammo.

it depends on mission...

MA2B??? thats old outdated tech that rebels use cause its on the black market, and the MA5K thats only really mentioned in ghosts of onyx as a weapon the spartan III's use, not to mention that ODST troops prefer the M7S as there compact CQC weapon

but as i said in an earlier posting, its possible that the MA5B/C could b used in leiu of a M247 MG in an urban environment
