We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

I just wanted to come to the Universe to discuss this very interesting class of vessel.

Covette-class vessel.

Another interesting picture.

So I just think this is a very interesting class of ship, and I wanted to discuss it.

I have a question though; What was it's main purpose. I usually consider myself an expert on Halo cannon, but this has always stumbled me. I know its small, and probably didn't carry many troops or vehicles.

And why didn't the Covenant bother to put shields on it? Was it for lack of a better word, a pawn?

Discuss.

Air support? It would make sense.

yes looks interesting. probably either planet glassing or deploys troops. The picture shows it can go into atmospheres. probably look it up on halopedia and find out

Well it doesn't have an energy projector so glassing is out of the question. I like the Air-Support theory.

I would say it is the covenants response to our frigates.

Until the corvette, to the best of my knowledge, the covenant didn't have a light tonnage atmopsheric support ship. Our frigates could pound their ground forces with relative immunity. As long as they didn't try to engage covvie capital ships head on.

limited air support troop deployment and rearmament station for fighter crafts.

there are seraphs hanging from the ceiling in the FF map, it deploys troops from underneath (can be seen during LNoS).

i thought it was an intresting ship since we actually got to free roam a lot of it and it wasnt boaring like that ship on halo CE it actually had controle rooms and cannon rooms and a room to land small ships

BANOOSH

I misread the thread title as 'Covenant Cookies' and now worship the OP forever.

...On Topic...
IMO, they're used for recon and minor support roles, mostly in stealth missions. Why recon? because they don't have shields. Perhaps the Covenant were afraid of having the shield generators of the Corvette give it away somehow. They were aiming for a stealth ship, so they dealt away with a huge hull, energy projectors, large support squadrons of XMFs, etc.

It serves as a Destroyer/ Troop transport. And I didn't realize you made this thread Raptor.

Yes, and I still, In my opinion, believe a Frigate could hold its own against a Corvette any day. Wit the Corvette having no shields and such, the Archer Missiles and a possible MAC round would cripple, even destroy the Corvette.

It looks like it has glassing capabilities. It has a ton of plasma torpedo launchers around the outside ring where the pods drop from. It can be seen wrecking the airstrip at sword base. It's probably comparable to the 120mm cannons the Frigates used in Tip of The Spear.

Actually, it does have a projector, Look at that circle in the bottom. It's a projector. Just to clarify. It takes 3 Frigates to take down 1 corvette, so it really is a great ship stand alone.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

I think it serves as a light support ship. With say, some hundreds of troops and maybe some dozens or so Banshees and/or Seraphs. It could be used to deploy troops into lightly armored facilities without drawing attention.

Where is it stated that it takes 3 Frigates to take down 1 Corvette?

I thought the Frigates used 50mm auto cannons ?

A UNSC frigate is evenly matched for a Corvette, in a mission in halo reach, it's shown that one orbital Mac strike was enough to destroy the Corvette.

One of the books, either fall of Reach or Ghost of Onyx, I remember it mentioning it.

Yeah, an Orbital MAC station is 9x times stronger than a ship board MAC. There is a HUGE difference.

  • 03.06.2011 2:03 PM PDT

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Since corvettes lack in Energy Shielding, they are relativly weak. A single UNSC Frigate could easily bring down two Covenant corvettes. By putting a MAC-round through the first one and then bombard then other one with Archer-missiles, the corvettes ship-to-ship weapons would have been useless due to the Frigates great speed and manueverability.

  • 03.06.2011 2:17 PM PDT

Let's be honest, it could be a lot worse.

I'm pretty sure it is used to intersept ships or for support bombing.

An orbital MAC fires the slug at 400 times the speed of the normal ship MAC and 6 times the weight.

I'd say a UNSC frigate outmatches a corvette. The Frigate in LNoS held out pretty long, and it wasn't even seriously fighting back. Since those missile on Exodus were enough to damage Corvettes, I have little doubt that a Frigate with several hundred missiles and a MAC would win against a Corvette(possibly several of them)

I just play for fun. MLG can kiss my ass.

I think it's meant to be more along the lines of an escort ship and maybe an invasion support ship. The no shields thing could be explained by them possibly being seen as an expendable asset that's not really necessary to the whole war effort.
