Subject: Question on Bungie and Abuse (the game)

I suspect this might be drowned in the sea of Halo canon discussions, but worth a shot.

On the Abuse wikipedia page, it says it was ported to Mac OS by Bungie, presumably around when it came out (1996). The article goes on to specify that the porting was done by Oliver Yu of Crack dot Com, with Bungie being the publisher. Would Abuse then be considered a Bungie game? It seems to figure prominently in the wallpaper and screenshot sections of the 'other games' part of the site.

Furthermore, what exactly was the chronology of the projects there? Marathon Infinity was released in 1996, followed by Myth: The Fallen Lords in 1997. Was Abuse released sometime in between them?

Racism isn't wrong if it's funny.

Of course it would, Bungie developed it. It's like the thing they have going with Microsoft right now.

But they didn't develop it. Crack Dot Com did.

No company that uses terms like, head-to-head, man-on-man, action-sack, and mancannon is homophobic.
I supposed that teabagging is.... what, a representation of a new form of colonoscopy?

I wouldn't consider it a "Bungie game", but it's still one of Bungie's projects. Kinda like what Gearbox Studios did with Halo; Bungie made the game and Gearbox ported it to PC. I'm pretty sure the release date (for Bungie's Mac version) was October 25th, 1996.

No, you said they ported it, unless I'm mistaken, those are two very different things.

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

March 3, 2553

Never heard of that game before.

Oh, sorry for the confusion. Crack Dot Com developed Abuse. It was then ported by a single employee working at Crack Dot Com, and was published by Bungie.

Good point. Thanks for the date! That puts it exactly ten days after the release of Marathon Infinity.

Bungie also released the game Weekend Warrior, made by Pangea Software, for the Mac on December 1st, 1996. Here's a really good thread written by Thanatos if you're interested in old school Bungie history.

Ah that's fantastic, thanks!

I'm currently writing up a guide on how to get the old Bungie games (the OLD Bungie games - pre-marathon).

Also, I just noticed a few weeks ago, the game abuse is available for the Iphone on the app store(not published by Bungie on the Iphone, but by Exakt Entertainment). Now if Bungie would put the Marathon games up there I'd have something good besides Street Figther IV to play on my Iphone.
