Subject: Back story info needed for new machinima.

I like to think of myself as an AI - I hunger for information, and I know, one day, that hunger will be my ultimate demise.

Me and my friends are attempting to make a Halo machinima and we would like to make it as authentic as possible. I myself have the Halo Encyclopedia (Thank you for the forward O'Conner) and have already figured out a few things e.g. In one of the starting episodes we find that two Elites have been 'dishonourably discharged' from the covenant and are dropped on a seemingly random planet which turns out to be in UNSC territory and near Reach. I've looked through a list of UNSC controlled planets and found that 'Beta Garbriel' is the location best fitting this brief.
Now one problem we have faced is the fact that we know how the Sangheili naming system works, but Bungie seem very reluctant in sharing some translations so I am not sure of how I would create each naming segment. Another problem we have faced is numbers. I have made a sucessful Sangheili font which accurately depicts the most basic 26 character human alphabet but I have not been able to find any references to numbers.
If anyone could help with these problems their name would appear in the credits for helping with back story as well as a special thanks. Any help would be welcomed.

Thank you for reading,
Eco.

Why would the sangheili alphabet have a 1:1 mapping with the English alphabet of all things?

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

What year in the Halo universe is your machinima set? Beta Gabriel is very close to Reach and it's inhabited by humans, it would be very tricky to actually make that work - but it's up to you.

Sangheili naming is a concept difficult to grasp at first, but it follows a simple structure.

1) First name, usually 3, 4 or 5 letters long.

2) Optional middle name. For example, Voro Nar 'Mantakree (note that the middle name is customary to Sangheili with a great amount of honour, you could have one of your characters lose this statusin your machinima).

3) Last name. Almost always begins with an apostrophe (') and ends with an "ee" suffix (but will be removed for your characters as they've been discharged from the Covenant).

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

I hesitate using the Halo wiki but...

Covenant glyphs for numbers would be based off of Forerunner glyphs for the same thing. Numbers 1-5 can be found here. Alternatively you could be a bit creative and use the glyphs the Forerunner used to name the Halo installations as numbers which would give you 1-7 (Found at the bottom of the page).

The Covenant don't just send Elites to exile. They would just kill any dishonourables. You will have to think of a really good reason for why the Covenant just sent them away instead of killing them. I think you should make it that they were going to be sentenced to death, but they excaped or something, but even that isn't too great because of the Sangheili honour and stuff. If they thought they deserved it then they would have let the Covenant kill them. Anyway...

Actually Forerunner glyphs are not used lightly in the Covenant. Forerunner glyphs are pretty much only used by the Prophets. Also not all Forerunner glyphs are thouse round ones, often you get triangular Forerunner glyphs and sometimes rectangular, but I am sure there are many Forerunner glyphs that have been unheard of. I think any Covenant glyphs that are being used should bare some resemblance to the glyphs you often see on Covenant vehicles. For example on the wings of this ghost.

Thanks for all the info guys. I chose Beta Gabriel because the machnima is set right at the end of The fall of Reach, so the two Elites where marooned there while some extra ships were trying to help the covenant at reach. Since the status of Beta Gabriel was not known after the FoR I thought it would be a good location because also, it has no permanent human residents and they all left just before the FoR.

Forerunner glyphs are used for nearly everything in the Covenant; their armor, their weapons, their language. The symbol on the ghost you linked is a Forerunner glyph - there is no such thing as a Covenant glyph.

Forerunner glyphs are used in speech quite commonly within the various ranks of the Covenant Hierarcy (Example).

The Covenant also have their own language (found here) which is comprised of the "triangle shapes" you mentioned before. That language however is mostly used in written correspondences - it certainly isn't found on their technology. Every glyph you see from the glyph on the ghosts to the glyph on Sanheili combat harnesses are Forerunner in nature.

I suggest you re-read the books.
