Halo Chronicles: The Spartan
Prologue: Logan-152
Halsey watched over the small yet strangely strong child, curious. His hair was shaggy and a brown, almost red when shining in the sun. His eyes were an extremely bright brown and almost looked as though they were grey. He was grinning and seemed almost victorious as he was amongst three older boys. None looked very pleased. This boy was the third candidate for the Spartan Program she had seen yet. He looked most promising. Halsey studied the boy's technique as he fought; his muscular strength was phenomenal for someone his age.
The boy was shoved and Halsey turned to her escort, Junior Lieutenant Jacob Keyes. "What was his name again?" She asked him, curiously. She never did pay attention to small things like that, such as people's names and more.
"Logan" Keyes began and his eyes widened as he looked towards the boy's general direction.
Halsey turned her head and studied what had transpired in that mere three seconds she had looked away. What she saw surprised her, to say the least. One of the older boys was on the ground, limp and pretty much lifeless at the moment. Halsey blinked her eyes in disbelief as she noticed the boy was in a well-balanced combat stance.
"He's a fighter." She mused aloud and disliked herself for it. It seemed as though she was getting old. Despite being in her early twenties or so, she didn't really pay attention.
"Have him marked down as a 'must-have' Candidate." Halsey said to Keyes and smiled at him.
"Yes ma'am." He said and Halsey noticed he winced when he said that, he didn't exactly like addressing her as Ma'am because he was a higher rank than her, but he did it anyways by accident. She figured it was a training reflex that he learned from his years in the naval academy.
Halsey also took note of Keyes pressing a few buttons on the data pad he held which contained information on the young boy.
Most notably was the recommendation level. If he should be ranked among the other Spartans what and where would he be on a one-ten scale?
The data-pad held that information, like it was the cheese in a grilled cheese. Meaning that was the major function of the device in general.
Halsey waved for Keyes to follow and looked over her shoulder at the boy.
The three bullies were all on the ground two were groaning in pain and clutching onto their arms, while the first was unconscious. The boy let out a battle cry and looked at Halsey, locking eyes with her until she looked forward again and entered her civilian ship. The airlock closing and hissing shut as she made her way to the cockpit and had Jacob Keyes plot a course for Reach, they would have to be waiting for their candidates
