Whenever you think of spartans you think of them fighting off hundreds of baddies. Doing crazy stuff no human would ever in their sane mind would even consider. If you have spartans on your team that basically means -blam!-s about to get real. But not in the books whenever i read it they die by the stupidest way. Grace after fighting hard on reach gets ambushed by brutes who completly destroy her WTF!!!

That shouldn't happen to a spartan to me bungie seems to be unsure whether they want spartans to be harbingers of death in any battle field scenerio or things that can die without warning. Please explain why the inconsistancy of spartan fighting capability is always mixed.

Which brings me to another point, brutes in the books are described as so monsterous that they can take a full clip in the face and still manage to hit you and beat you to a pulp and then die. I find that hard to believe than considering that spartans don't have problem with elites who are just flat out better than brutes.

I just hope bungies new canon makes it seem spartans are actually spartans not toy soldiers that you just dispose off. It just throws me off how they fight of hundreds of elites jackals grunts, even several hunters and than get destroyed by some stupid instance like a brute ambush or several plasma shots that kill them out of nowhere. Bungie just please make it clear what you want them to be!!!

thanks for reading my rant

That's how it is in the games. You get ambushed and hit by three brute shot rounds, you die. And on H2 legendary you will die a lot; MC's luck is truly necessary. And the brutes are that strong in H2 too - the books just make elites look lame.

Brains beats brawn get used to it

Fear the Red Comet

Variety is the spice of life.
Long live games.
Death to all fanboys.

They're still human. They're not bloody psychics that can magically detect ambushes, snipers, and other surprise attacks that come out of nowhere. If anything that's they way Spartans should be taken down. Through indirect means, not up front battles...

an assault rifle will kill an elite in less than half a clip in canon....

the difficulties in the games are really mixed, grunts for example are about as strong as they are on heroic, while the shield strength of an elite is more akin to easy but his AI level would be above legendary.

I agree somewhat, the ways the authors have killed off Spartans have been pretty dumb for what a Spartan is. I mean, yeah, they're not invincible or anything and die just like the rest of us, but I definitely feel like killing them off by having a pulse of Plasma burn them to a crisp. One or two odd deaths are fine, like Kat's, but killing them off like that instance in First Strike is just dumb. Their deaths should be like Sam's/Kurt's/Jorge's deaths or go down like Will or Six, fighting tooth and nail to the death. It's not Bungie though doing the odd killing, it's the writers of the books who do it, I doubt Bungie really specifies how they are to die with everyone.

Well the Brutes are a little stronger than Elites, but yes, it is absurd how First Strike portrayed them, you kinda have to remember though that it was going off of Halo 2's incarnation of them, which is not how they are at all, Brutes are extremely tough, but they're not invincible damage sponges that can shrug off a full AR mag to the face or take two sword blows before dying. Frankly though, I think most of the books do a horrible job at portraying the military power of the Covenant. The way the books do things the UNSC should not have had any victories whatsoever and Humanity should have been completely exterminated. I mean like, they have one single plasma pistol shot pretty much taking out a Spartan's shields, and I'm not talking about an overcharged shot, I'm talking about just a normal one, or a Banshee completely totally an undamaged 'Hog, when we've all seen an undamaged one take a hit and be heavily damaged, but still being completely functional. The only book that the Covenant felt right in was Contact Harvest, and that was written by one of the story writers at Bungie.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Posted by: SPARTAN92t[quote]is it just me or do all spartans apart from KAT have a heroic death?KAT dies from one little neele rifle round. If that could kill spartans, it'd be my tool of destruction in arena.

I think you just found a little sexism, KAT being weaker than the other male spartans, yet the armor is the same for them all.

Her shields were down, as were the others. A single round would go through any helmet.

Exactly! And if any takes the time to re-watch the cutscene you would see that Kat's helmet is on but not connected to the rest of her armour (you can clearly see her neck). Basically her suit is not sealed and therefore her shields cannot be charged, hence the "unexplainable headshot" that kills her.

I think it's the other way around to be honest.

Again...I never read the books...but based on the amount of Info on Elites vs Brutes...it seems the story writers favor Elites.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

One thing: you seem to think that Spartans are walking tanks.
They are buffed-up humans in metal armour with a shield over the top.
The shields can only take so much, and when they pop, you are just left with a very fast, very strong, metal-clad person.
Now, plasma is incredibly hot. So hot, it melts metal, straight through the power armour and onto the Spartan below.

Spartans are just highly-trained, well-equipped, athletically enhanced soldiers. They aren't chucks of indestructible awesome like you seem to think.

Nope, that's Metal Gear.

Nope, but they are chunks of damn near indestructible awesome.

I see what the OP is saying, but sometimes it is necessary for various reasons to show a Spartan being vulnerable. It shows that even with that major backup, it's still a very much one-sided fight.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Spartan's are humans.

They can die just as easily as anyother person could by the stupidest errors and ways. It's a reality of life. They arent indestructable, they only are really damn good at what they do.
