Good Morning Campers,

It is my intention to inquire on the topic of ODST's name. Perhaps this has already been asked, I wasn't sure what to search for.

However, I was hoping to gain some of the community's valuable insight on the matter to enlighten me.

Why is ODST an expansion to Halo 3? By all rights, ODST should be under the Halo 2 title in my opinion because the events take place during Halo 2, not Halo 3. Am I mistaken for some reason?

I do understand that Halo 3 was the latest and greatest at the time, but does that necessarily warrant titling ODST under Halo 3?

Thanks for any and all positive contributions to discussion you have.

The reason it was named under Halo 3 was because it was using the same engine as Halo 3/It was originally supposed to just be an add-on to Halo 3. The project just ran too wild for it to be a DLC, so, they released it as a full priced game and a Halo 3 multiplayer disk with all of the DLC maps already on it.

Meh, should've just called it Halo: ODST, it would've sold better.

Im sorry but what is that even based upon?

3 or the lack of it would not effect the sales of odst in anyway.

3 things effected the sale of ODST

1. Bungie saying it was originally an add-on for halo 3, this caused the majority of idiots to assume odst was half a game when it REALLY wasnt its got a full co-op campaign with optional scoring and a co-op multi-player portion (aka exactly like bulletstorm )

2. No online versus turned alot of people away because the general public hate halo's story.

3. No including master chief also to a lesser extent hurt it, reach and odst both suffered from a drop in sales and the only shared trait is the lack of master chief in the promo art.

Despite that ODST has still shipped over 3 million copies.

Its a fantastic game with an awesome campaign and it got alot of undeserved hate cause it didnt have a online multiplayer or firefight matachmaking both of which wernt needed at all.

Like Stalker stated above, thats part of the reason not a lot of people bought it/was popular.

IMO though, Halo 3: ODST had an amazing story, but honestly not that great level design. No real "memorable" levels like the rest of the Halo's (which really should have been everywhere since the main focus of this game WAS new levels with mostly existing assets), and the constant use of firefight in the campaign was annoying. I mean their good sometimes, but not every 10 minutes.

Besides from having not that involving campaign missions, it was good game, story, and told what happened during Halo 2 and 3 from a different point of view.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

It had the Halo 3 multiplayer disc so it makes sense.

It's an add-on to Halo 3, it was originally going to be a small sought of 2 level mini campaign, then they turned into a full game, and everyone got disappointed with it because they forgot it was just an add-on.
