a rankign system that shows how active you are and give you a name...such as

military guy

then the next one would be higher except you'd need a lot of replies and stuff

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

If your rank had nothing top do with the ammount of posts you make in a day then yes.

But if spammers get high ranks for being spammers then no.

Try

The optimatch

Zansibar

and the flood

all places were you can find mindless posts after posts. With a nintendo ranking system those people would go up and up.

The thing with this is that in a rank system usually if its well made specific forums can be designated as not giving points towards a high rank.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Unless it is the fabled Karma system, then no. There was a post counter when this website was first made, and it was removed due to people post-whoring. Adding ranks based on posts would be even worse, because being able to brag about a higher title is even better than bragging about a higher number next to your name.

I would hate to have forum people be rank obsessive, i think i like the way it is now. Although it is kindof cool on RedVSBlue's website.

I don't understand the need for karma and ranks. What's the point?

But then you would have more flood-ites coming to Septagon and posting topics like "ZOMG I saw ads for Halo 3". It would only encourage more mindless posts than there are already.

Some people think they are better just because of there avitar. Do you know how retarded that sounds. And then to have them talking about a rank. It hurts justs thinking about it.

I was thinking perhaps a casual ranking system

Perhaps by time has a member

Like 6 months and under
6 months -year

and then after a year

That way eventully everyone is the same rank

But that has massive potential for more elitism and there is enough of it without ranks

Well, I am a hunter and all, so I guess I should settle thi...
I'm not sure I see the point. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of the Karma system that is rumored to be implemented within the few decades, depending on if Achronos gets some free time (or retires early?), so naturally I will be even less fond of this. I don't like the idea of having member-controlled ranks. If there is going to be any elitism, which isn't always a terrible thing, it should at least be official. I know the mods won't give people higher "ranks" or "karma" if they know they'll be super-elitist with it so I would feel a lot better if it was in their hands.

Post count or length of membership wouldn't do. It should be like the previously suggested karma system. Certain individuals are looked at and rewarded for their actions in the community.

But judging from the rest of the forum-goers, can we trust them with that?

Spam by day, spam by night. All for the sake of going up in rank.

Karma system? It's not hard to pretend to be helpful. In fact, the saying goes, "When a bad man pretends to be good, he is at his worst." You pretend to be helpful, get some recognition as a good member, then start a lot of trouble. This, of course, is if you put the power solely in the hands of the moderators and Bungie employees.

Things would go haywire if the members had that power.

I agree with Mabien. I have been threatend with recieving bad karma for not agreeing with certain people. Thats when it gets personal and the system it ruined.

A real contributor to the community wouldnt do it just to get some "Prophet" next to their name.

That said it is nice to reward some people (like Themebuilder's custom avatars).
