Splinter Cell 3 is going to be so bad ass. I vote for SC because MGS has too many flippin movies in it and it get repetitive.

MGS has always been my favorite games because of the storyline. Sure it has a lot of movies in it, but it keeps you gripped by wanting to find out what's going to happen next. I like splinter cell though because of the stealth, though MGS has more gunfighting.

I choose MGS 3.

I refuse to vote because I am anxiously awaiting each. They, despte being in the same genre, are vastly different games with their own unique qualities.

Splinter Cell 3.
No contest.

The movies are cool but the parts where they just talk on the radio is so stupid.

I'll be on my own side.

Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory. Metal Gear cant compete. a stealth game isnt supposed to have gunfighting(MGS3). you want gunfighting? then go play Halo.

Splinter Cell: CS for 3 reasons:

1: Camera
2: Co-Op Play
3: I don't have a PS2

Exactly. I would say that they could each be put into their own sub-genre:MGS is an action-stealth-political stealth game, while Splinter Cell is a stealth-stealth-gadget game.

Also, I have played neither title. However, going on previous titles in the same series, I would say that I am most looking forward to MGS. I have fond memories of the first one on the Playstation.

Did anyone else cry when Sniper Wolf died?

EDIT: Note to self-Use preview button in future....

I think Chaos Theory sounds much cooler than Snake Eater. C'mon, you know what you first thought of when you hear "Snake Eater". Don't lie.

I disagree.... Chaos Theory is very cliche. Snake Eater is much more original.

When I first heard it was going to be called 'Snake Eater', I assumed something or someone was going to eat Solid Snake.....

Well, Chaos Theory does sound cliche, but I'm wary of this new MGS. I just don't think they are bringing enough 'to the table' in terms of revolutionary ideas. Splinter Cell has been praised as the revolution of the stealth genre, and it's latest incarnation, Pandora Tomorrow had the first multiplayer action in a stealth game.

I've heard all of these things like you will be able to wear different uniforms and camouflage in MGS, but I'm not sure if that sounds like that much fun, I don't think it is really that new of a gameplay element to justify the development. It'll be a graphical feast for sure, but the PS2 just isn't capable of pushing the same polygons as the Xbox.

I'll try both out, but I right now I think that Ubisoft has the better chance of getting my money.

Haha i post in jest Vella, I post in jest.

For me, however, Splinter Cell didn't entertain me as much as MGS did. But opinions are like noses, as they say.

I will play both, but if both titles are similar to their predeccessors (sp?) then I believe that I will enjoy MGS better. Much in the same way as you will no doubt enjoy Splinter Cell better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to both, very much. I like the realism they are trying in this MGS. Damn poll wouldn't let me choose both.

Has anyone figured out why Snake seems to be back about 40 years? That puzzled me when they announced it.

Hmmmm.... something I questioned as well. Perhaps, because he is a clone, he has a longer lifespan? Or he keeps his youthful looks for longer?

Or Maybe...its big boss. Snake Eater. Big Boss. MGS has a way better story and cutscenes. Splinter Cell,s sucked ass. They were just boring, and the cutscense look so fake compared to tge awsome graphics. But really, you can't compare. In Splinter Cell, you sneak around and use cool gadgets, while avoinding gun fights. In MGS, you sneak around until you get to a gun fight. Or you can just shoot every one in the -blam!- room then run away before the Swat team comes. There's so much more in Metal Gear Solid, and that's why I like it better. Splinter Cell got way too repetive for me.

I do agree that SC does get repetitive.... The only thing that changes are the enviroments you explore.
Is the character in MGS3:SE DEFINATELY Big Boss?

EDIT: Do you have a link to this info at all?

I voted for MGS3, mainly because I have fond memories of MGS2. But I think both games are like apples and oranges - they're fruit, but other than that, are different.

The MGS series, let's face it, isn't the most realistic thing in the world. Solid Snake doesn't act like a real soldier would, and how many times have you seen world crises involving giant nuclear armed robots? The story of the MGS series has just got plain weird, too. It is very convoluted and full of just bizarre twists. I enjoyed the story of MGS2, but I had to play through it another time before it made any sense.

Splinter Cell, on the other hand, draws its inspiration from more realistic sources (terrorism, etc) and is more real in terms of mission objectives and weaponry. The SC games' stories are often told in a manner similar to that of a Tom Clancy spy thriller (which, given the fact SC was created by Tom Clancy, is not surprising) and the game is generally more down to earth than the "La-li-lu-le-lo" fantasy story of MGS.

I would say the character in MGS, at least in part, is Big Boss. The character is missing an eye in one of the videos, and in the English language trailer, is shown with an eyepatch. Also, the E3 2003 handout had "BIG BOSS" spelt out in it if you looked. However, there are inconsistencies with the 1960's setting shown before. One of the trailers shows 'Snake' fighting a group of soldiers flying on hover platforms. That doesn't seem like 60's tech to me...

Also, the trailers say things like 'ReLive Memories' and 'ReLive the past to survive the future', which leads me to suspect that the game might have part set in the 1960's, and then catch up to where MGS2 left off. Hideo Kojima has made a lot of statements that MGS3 is the end to the series, and not resolving loose ends from the future (MGS2) would just be stupid.

I would bet there will be another character switch, but only from Big Boss to Solid Snake, and given that they both have the codename 'Snake' it wouldn't be in violation of past statements that you won't switch characters away from a character called Snake in MGS3. Switching from past Snake (Big Boss) to the future Solid Snake looks quite feasible, in my books.

That said, there's no way of knowing what will happen. The trailers for the last MGS game were altered so that they hid the Raiden character switch, so who knows what will happen?

We'll find out when the game is released on Nov 15th, and given that we'll all be playing Halo 2 for quite a while after Nov 9th, probably later.
