Operation: Red Flag debriefing happened prior to August 29.
The actual operation was supposed to take place on August 30th, but was subsequently canceled due to the main arrival of the Covenant fleet.

RED FLAG was put off when the Covenant arrived at Reach on the 30th in the novels, yet another contradiction as the Fleet of Particular Justice now arrived on the 14th...

Actually, that fleet arrived the 30th.

The fleet that arrived after the Long Night of Solace was a smaller strike fleet, and on the 30th the massive Fleet of Particular Justice arrived.

Can you not accept some date changes?

Apparently they can't.

And you have no way of knowing whether Halsey could leave Sword or not, I think having two Pelicans at that back entrance is good evidence that she could. I mean really, if she was completely cooped up in Sword Base, then the Covenant would know about every single entrance and there would not be two Pelicans sitting outside it when Noble Team splits up and goes on their separate missions.

The soldiers, the lovers, the cowards, the brave
We're all on this world, we got what we gave

I have to agree with Wazooty... The Reach game story made absolutely NO sense...Either Bungie has to say Reach or Fall of Reach were noncanon, and it better be Reach that is declared noncanon.

I know someone who pissed off EvilOtto so much asking about the canon status of Reach that he said that Reach was "all a dream"

That wasn't SWORD base.
That landing pad was in excess of 2km below SWORD, and also several hundred metres away, halfway down a cliff face.

And connected to sword base via the trams which start from the base.

As such, we can say the tunnel and landing pad are a part of sword base, however removed. (Also, I'd say the landing pad wasn't 2km below sword base, as that area was the cave where you defended the lab.)

You call me a troll because you refuse to actually listen to what I say.

You argue like a child, but you probably are.

Look at the planet reach, even before august 15th, 15 days before the "knockout punch", a very large portion of the planet is already burning.

Then a very large fleet came later that day and was setting fire to mos tof the planet.

According to TFOR the poa and the people on board were not aware reach was being attacked until the 30th, which is completely the stupidest thing in the world considering that most of the planet was already on fire in the weeks before, considering the spartans met with dr halsey on reach on the 27th but were completely unaware of it being mostly on fire for some reason even though its quite easy to see form space.

Considering that Jun mentioned that red team was fighting and evacing civilians on august 21, which according to you never happened because red team didnt get involved until the 30th.

You refuse to actually think and simply call me a troll because you dont have an actual reply because you are an imbecile of the highest order.

I have shown you all the evidence to counter your argument multiple times yet you refuse to even consider it, therefore everything you say is complete garbage.

I consider the actual events that happen in the game to hold more weight than the commentary one developer said during a 20 second clip. I am not sure why you wouldn't. Game canon counters your argument, and game canon is THE canon.

I would love to see bungie make an official statement on this, if only to point out the inconsistencies they make with what they say within their OWN GAME.

Good day.

There were multiple Red Teams. Not just Halo Wars ones and TFOR ones...Actually just them but there would be four teams.

Any of that can be fixed, the Halo Universe hasn't ended yet. And don't be such a -blam!-.

Cmdr pretty much said what I would have said, but I'll state my opinion/reasoning anyway.

Regardless of where it is, my point was that Halsey had a way out, she was not trapped in SWORD Base. It is entirely possible that she left to hold the Red Flag briefing and returned to finish up overseeing the deciphering of the SWORD Base Artifact.

Jun: "SWORD?! COVENANT OWN IN IT NOW!"

That quote alone, plus the fact that oh, I dunno, there are hundreds of Covenant vehicles and infantry in front of sword, Banshees flying overhead, two huge AA turrets set up, and covenant inside of the destroyed building itself, I'd say it's safe to say, THERE WAS NO WAY IN OR OUT.

That base was locked down. It was as good as destroyed. The fact the Journal says she was moving freely in and out of Sword is laughable.

TBH. I think they destroyed canon with Reach. Wasn't mentioned in the books, yet the Spartans represented a major strategical deployment on Reach. Their omission in a book detailing the fall of Reach is a gaping hole in the canon IMO. Just because it may 'fit' doesn't mean it's right.

It was not mentioned in the books because John and the PoA did not engage the Covenant until August 30. TFoR is only told from their perspective.

First Strike is told from Fred's point of view. If First Strike had begun prior to August 30 then it is entirely possible it would have detailed Red Team's operation on Reach prior to August 30.

I will never, ever, accept the pillar landing on Reach as canon. It makes no damn sense at all.

>Covenant show up on the 30th
>The pillar is LEAVING THE SYSTEM TO GO ON THEIR MISSION.
>Turn around to defend Reach(which was already under attack in the game so...)
>DROP OFF THE SPARTANS IN A SINGLE PELICAN DOWN TO THE PLANET WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COST 4 SPARTANS THEIR LIVES.
>Land on the planet right after you just sent all of your spartans down in a vessel that could be shot down much easier than the autumn.

Do you all honestly think Keyes is that stupid?

You know what's gonna happen now? They'll rewrite TFoR to fit with Halo:Reach's story. That is how the canon will be made to fit. Also, the canon was damaged, not destroyed. It hasn't been dealt a mortal blow yet.

Huh, because the Covenant had totally breached the tram system and labs where Halsey was before Noble Team arrived.

That and the hanger with two Pelicans at the end of the package. I doubt Noble Team + Halsey went back into Sword Base, then out to a secluded hanger which the Covenant had not found (Which they would have if it was close/connected to the main portion of the base and not the tram tunnels.

Fall of Reach was already re-released. They won't do it a third time.

Then why, pray tell, was that landing pad still with absolutely no Covenant presence on it, and why were there two Pelicans sitting completely unharmed on said landing pad? If there was no way out then there would have been more to the level after you get into Halsey's lab fighting your way out of the area under SWORD. Or they would have shown the remain members of Noble fight Covies on the landing pad in the cutscene.

It was just horrible story telling. They have the base completely under covenant control. There was no reason for the pelicans to still be intact. The covenant had a huge number of forces in, and around the base. It should've been impossible to move in or out of the base.

Ah yes, because it is completely unthinkable that an ONI base would have some sort of secure/isolated landing pad? Or that Halseys lab would have a landing pad connected to it since it would be hard to navigate large crates/supplies through the sword base hallways?

  • 03.13.2011 12:10 PM PDT

Let's be honest, it could be a lot worse.

You know who really cares if they don't fit together perfectly, the book was great and the game is sweet. Also Dr. Halsey's journal explains some of the gaps.
