I read the novel but had a hard time visualizing this prisoner. Every time they mentioned it I kept visualizing the Gravemind. My reason for this is because the Didact said that it spoke with surprising wisdom.

Halo: Cryptum - Chapter Twelve (p.120)

"In the name of the Mantle and all I honor--I hope it is dead, I fear it is not. They have unleashed it.
"Humans found the capsule and excavated it, but fortunately could not break it loose...not completely. They did devise a means of communicating with the prisoner. What it said to them frightened them deeply. With surprising wisdom, the stopped all attempts to communicate...."

It also says that this creature was massive and left by the Precursors which created the flood so could this prisoner be the Gravemind?

I know what you're trying to say here, and I'm not agreeing or disagreeing. But when the Didact said "With surprising wisdom" He was speaking of the humans, in their decision to stop communications with it. He said that the creature frightened the humans, and the humans, whom he considers so trivial and foolish, did the wise thing and stop communications with it.

I really hope not. It's the most obvious answer, and if it were so, the book would lose the ONLY piece of it's plotline I actually enjoyed.

Oh alright, I just read it incorrect. That makes sense though. On another note though, I jizzed in my pants when Bornstellar witnesses the Halo ring entering the San'Shyuum world. Saying he saw the massive end of a portal. Watching a delicate silver ring emerge through the purplish hole.

Then he goes on to say... "That single word connected intimately with the precious little the Domain had revealed to me: Death. Destruction. Massive Power.
That word was Halo."

It's on page 202 if you wanna get chills down your spine like i do every time i read it.

"Time was your ally human. But now it has abandoned you. The Forerunners....have returned. And this tomb... is now yours". - The Didact

the prsioner is sdescribed as looking a bit like a seas scorpion as described on Halo wikia but alot bigger. Also the book is really good as slowly reading it I would go hang on I know what that is and slowly the universe I knew was expanded upon and many more facts werre revealed.

Technically it was humanity who basically made the Flood XD

But in all seriousness, we don't know who or what made the canisters of dust that the Flood evolved from, it could have been made by the Precursors, it could be poop from a Chickenpede, we really don't know where it came from, but I really don't think that it was the Precursors.

The matter of the Prisoner being related in some way to the Gravemind, I think is a big definite, the two are most certainly connected and the Prisoner either becomes the Gravemind or is absorbed by a less evolved Flood intelligence that becomes the Gravemind. But yeah, it's pretty certain that the two are linked.

Well know for sure next book, but gravemind is a solid guess. Considering that medicant bias was sided with him, which ultimately led to the downfall of the forerunner..it makes sense.

And seeing as medicant bias had just used a halo to free the prisoner...makes lots of sense that it is...gravemind.

We got 2 more books to go, and I can't wait to read them. So happy with what greg bear has done.
