Tough decision...from a single-player standpoint I'm sure most everyone would agree that H:CE was far superior than any of the following Halo games (H2 had the weakest campaign; While H3 and Reach both had decent campaigns neither game compares to the level of sheer epicness that was H:CE)
In terms of Multiplayer...H:CE, while it didn't have an online component (because XBL hadn't even been announced yet!), had one of the most robust multiplayer engines on the market! I spent countless hours systeming linking with friends (and eventually on XBConnect)! However, this was a different period in the world of gaming...when friends would spend their friday nights all gathered around one (or 4) TV(s). Halo 2 is the game that really launched online gaming, up until that point XBL had been small and insignificant, but with its release came an explosion of gaming! Just like with Halo:CE, I played Halo 2 for countless hours, but this time without the hastle of driving to a buddies house or calling the gang! Because of its mere accessablitiy, H2 won me over and is still my favorite game to play (when my xbox worked...R.I.P)
