I remember a while back Frankie and another Bungie employee (can't remember who now) came to answer questions about the then forthcoming Bungie game Halo 2.

Story-related questions were just ignored, since obviously no one wanted to spoil any surprises, and instead they answered a hundred and one other questions related to the gameplay itself.

Now, however, Halo 2 has been released for a while, and it its storyline has, in my view, raised far more questions than it has answered.

I think it would be really great if one or two Bungie emplyees came to talk to us about the story of both Halo and Halo 2, to answer various questions people might have. Of course they wouldn't reveal what will happen in the story in the future, (possible game/movie) but give us a nod in the right direction.

Bungie would likely answer in their usual mysterious style, but it would be nice to have some of those confusing story elements explained/further complicated.

Also, has anything else happened like this in the past? Did Bungie come out and talk in detail about the story of Halo, or Marathon, or any other games they have made?

EDIT - I realise this would be difficult because a lot of questions would likely be "Bungie when are you going to release Halo 3?!!!?!??!?" and so on. Surely there's a way around this, like hosting the Q and A thread in a theorist group, or something like that.

I'm certifiable.

To my knowledge, Bungie has never gone back and commented to any great extent about plot... except, perhaps, to correct some ambiguity in the Marathon storyline with another fiction release (The Lost Network Packets, which I must confess I haven't read yet).

Other than that, we seem to be on our own.

-- Steve's found the fan-based interpretations quite fun in any case.

Yes, it's great to see some of the crazier theories out there, but many of these rely on a lot of assumptions, which can often be wrong.

Some Bungie input would be great.

Hmmm...perhaps one of the employees could make a new group, then start searching for a certain number of people who they think would ask good questions, invite these people, and then carry out the Q&A there.

I'd love to ask some questions and get some answers. Of course, by "ask some questions" I mean "beat people up then chain them to the wall and smack them with my new and improved wet noodle smacker."

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

The Myth GURPS book was completely authorized by Bungie, and it reveals and clarifies a lot about the Myth story (whereas the Halo novels provide an interesting backstory, but they don't really explain anything important). Or so I'm told, I must confess that I have not read it.

Bungie has never had any desire to clarify things in their games, what makes the Marathon plot so good and intriguing is more what is not said, than what is said. Bungie prefers that you fill in the gaps with your imagination, rather than make everything crystal clear. So there's really no chance that that will ever happen.

Hopefully a new novel will enlighten us further.
