So, some of my friends argue that differential doesn't count for who wins in a MP game of HALO. I say it does. Thoughts?

you mean the difference b/n kills and deaths? I dunno.

Marathon scores that way. Which is why I always lose. I was always the type to run forward, guns blazing, and take out a lot of ppl. But I also die a hell of a lot. So i usually haveh near the most kills, but also a ton of deaths, no matter what game i play.

Guess that doesn't answer your quesiton, does it?

However, bragging about who has the most kills or best kill-ratio or least deaths is a fairly dangerous thing to practice. It just leads to less teamwork and a fair amount of disgruntled ness and subordiation, as noone wants to be on Defense, or go for flag captures, or get the ball, everyone demanding the sniper or rocketlauncher, or . . . I could go on, but I might hurt someone.

Why don't you just let everything think he's the best? Its safer that way O:-)

bah

If yuo want to have the differential count, limit your lives. I myself always have an insane number of kills, with an equally insane number of deaths. My friend, however, has a modest amount of kills, and a very low death rate. I would argue that his low deaths is because he stays back and covers his teammates, who I usually wind up killing, then he kills me before I can kill him (usually). It could be argued that playing the low death route leads to people letting their teammates die for them. Go forth, kill the enemy. If you have a lot fo kills, low deaths, and your team was mutilated, I'd say you need to get a little more involved.

Kill/death difference doesn't count in the least. Against quality opposition, death is inevitable if you're actualy participating in the match. This is why all games score with kill priority. The only time when deaths count is when you're tied for kills.

Ok, our differential is thus. Kills - deaths = differential. I almost ALWAYS have the better differential. Some guys might get the high kill counts because they farm the weaker players and get lucky shots off. I'm more of the patient sniper. I wait for the perfect opportunity. I won't give away my position if I have a chance of missing a shot. So I usually don't die as much but still have a great kill count. To sum up my reasoning behind this post, I just think that a 23 differential beats a -6 differential. What do you think now?

i guess the real deal is who's team wins the match. it is a team effort. and if its ffa, then it doesn't matter how many times you die: so long as you are on top at the end.

Well, a -6 differential means you dies more than you killed, and although this is a brutal reality for 50% of the people out there, if you're in that range, you're not good (unless all of your friends totally kick ass). Push comes to shove, you're at the bottom of the totem pole. My differential is typically 50% of my kills when I play with my friends. A typical match will end like this:
Rip-Saw: 90 kills, 45 deaths
Tatsuya: 30 kills, 7 deaths
Other players: 30 kills total, 100 deaths (They TK by accident a lot)

Who's the best player here? Based on ratio of kills to deaths, my good friend is, but if we were playing a game where we were going for the best ratio, I'd play a lot differently. It is true that in war, your superiors don't want you to die at all costs, but you don't respawn in real life. I'm the better player.
