Has anybody tried to use the xbox 360 controller on a Mac? Does it use a usb connection. Does it even work? or even any other conrtoller that works well, i havent found one with a good review yet. mouse and keyboard may be better but my fingers just aren't that quick.

I would think that it WOULD work, but not entirely sure.

The old Xbox 360 Alpha Kits were Macintosh G5's. And they had a USB in the back.

Hm...I'm not sure...I mean, its Moneysoft. It goes without saying that they've got a deep-seated hate for all things mac...not sure how the compatibility would work...I suggest getting a friend's 360 for PC controller to test. Or just checking the packaging for answers.

i would say no becasue the 360 is from M$ and they didnt make the MAC an im guessing it would be like having the 360 controler working for the PS3 or Revolution. but im not realy fimmilular with the MAC.

There is a wide variety of controllers offered for pc users. I'm assuming they have the same for mac. (I may be wrong.) It seems like every computer store I go to, there is a ton of controller's that can be used for computers.

Again I must encourage the use of keyboard and mouse. I felt the same way when I first started using them. I have been in automotive work for many years, and my hands and fingers deffinetly dont work the way they used to. But I swear the keyboard and mouse are the best for my hands, imo.

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
Display Type: LCD Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-bit Color

Most if not all usb input devices, (mice, trackballs, etc) work with the Mac– including MicroSoft products. The issue would be the driver. New Macs come with drivers preloaded for just about every known device, so you can plug and play. If it needs a special driver and one has not been written, the Mac may not be able to "understand" what the controller is "telling" it.

Keep in mind, there is no "auto aim" like there is in X-Box. The controller may not be precise enough on the computer.

Check these out:

They look interesting and might appeal to someone shying away from a full keyboard/mouse combo.

There is autoaim on both comp and Xbox, less than in Halo 2 but Halo still has it.

True. But that's what we mean by saying that the controller won't "work" with Mac.

Wrong. There is NO autoaim on the computer. Unless you use an aimbot. Which automatically makes you a -blam-. Not saying you use an aimbot, you might be mistaken with your information, but there is no aimbot on the PC.

I've yet to come across an input device that did not have a Mac driver on its install disc, (sometimes one for the outdated OS 9, too), or trhat didn't work just by plugging it in. Of course there may be some, but MS would not be protecting much by making their controlers PC compatible and not compatible with Macs. They even stopped making MS Word laggy on the Mac. They had been deliberately slowing it down a few years back.

Also, I seem to remember seeing something in the preferences setup in my Mac version of Halo that had to do with enabling gamepads. I have not played with prefs in a while, I could be wrong.

I was at best buy and saw a windows version of the 360 controller. It looked the exact same as the normal one but was $10 more, 50 CAN$ as apposed to 40 for the regular one. why exactly i don't know. The package said it was compatible with certain versions of windows but nothing about the MAC. I suppose trying to find another Mac user or even a mac user using a game pad on here are pretty slim. I guess I'll have to be the guinie pig on this one and answer -for certain- my own question.

Hold on a bit! If the packaging doesn't say anything about being Mac-compatible, then I wouldn't suggest spending all that money on that controller. I would suggest getting an undoubtedly Mac-compatible controller to use on your Mac.

You could try googling it, or looking up the tech specs for the PC Xbox controller through the Xbox website...
