Subject: I want Halo 2 back but....

Hello! Feel free to some Cobbler as this ODST stares at you.

It wouldn't be the same.
The game could remain unchanged, but it wouldn't be the same.
With the new gaming community, XBL Parties (I HATE THEM), and other things, it wouldn't be the same.

People are different now. I remember teaming up on headlong with guys I just met and forming a plan and laughing when we drove into the water.

It wouldn't happen like that now.

Now, people rush for the weapons, betray for the weapons, and think of themselves. The other teammates, why they are in a party! They can't hear you!

I want the game back but...

It wouldn't be the same.

Um.....Red name tag??

Those were the good days. Now, like you said, it would not be the same even if Halo 2 came back.

Halo 2 for Life!

Do not compare how people play reach to how people would play Halo 2 if it was back.

Halo 2 was a different monster; it had a completely different interface and a better interface, interactions, speed of game play, etc.

It would be just as good now as it was the first day. People were distracted by the bright lights of new things but Halo 2 was for me as good as it ever was the last 2 years it was on XBL if not better (as I knew how to have fun playing it no matter what and people continued to come up with innovative ways to play that kept it fresh and fun for me).

I'm not talking about gameplay my friend, I mean Community.
Gamers these days don't share the common brotherhood we all did back in the day. Its different now.

Halo 2 for Life!

This is an illusion (don't take offense this is opinion), the community for Halo 2 would always be strong if it were present and those communities within halo 2 wouldn't be like those present in currently supported Halo titles.

  • 03.13.2011 10:39 PM PDT

You both may be right. If H2 is remade the new people might experience what we once had a few years ago. However, a lot of the people that played in the 'good times' have changed. It's almost impossible to relive something exactly the way it used to be, once it's gone.

Halo 2 for Life!

It won't be the same is an overused phrase. Halo 2 has all the elements if they would put it back on XBL to be fun as it once was.

The last two years of Halo 2 was as amazing for me as the first two years. I actually think I was having more fun the last two years.

Some community aspects change slightly but if they would restart it, Halo 2 would not be effect as badly as the new halo games as it's fast and easy to escape un-fun situations.

The issues in the current titles are much larger than Halo 2 the way I understand it.

Theater and Forge actually detract from the community, they are not good features. Modders in Halo 2 and montages makers in Halo 2 did a much better job.

Also the gameplay is slow and frustrating.

Don't get me wrong, I want Live back too, it's just that it won't be the same with me. My grandson and I used to spend days playing but he's chasing girls now and doesn't have time for gramps.

Halo 2 for Life!

I recall playing Halo 2 with my brother and friends. I think it was better and more fun playing with them but they weren't always available.

I still found some enjoyment playing with randoms, it wasn't equivalent to playing with family and friends though I agree.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Halo 2 was also terrible when it came to the experience, but the Halo 2 forum kiddies here like to forget that.

Maybe it's those nostalgia goggles making it seem better.

"Maybe it's those nostalgia goggles making it seem better". I can say that about you and your affinity to Halo CE.

Most people like to say that CE was the best because it's what they first played and it's what "revolutionized gaming". Yeah it revolutionized gaming 10 years ago. I'll come back from playing a few Halo 3 matches and find myself not getting any fun out of CE online.

It was good because it had nothing to compare to. It was that awesome experience where you could use an assortment of weapons and drive vehicles and play various gametypes that were never before introduced until Halo:CE- for the first time.
It only makes sense to realize the huge improvements made from 1 to 2. Better physics, graphics, movement, etc. Halo CE is outdated. You compare it to the rest of the halo games, and there really is nothing to CE anymore. You got a Pistol and a Sniper and a Warthog. That's it (exaggerated a bit, but just so you understand).

If anything, people who believe to prefer Halo:CE as the best in the trilogy are only blinded by the fact that it was the first game to come out, so to say that it "deserves the best recognition". People like you are the most nostalgic, constantly ignoring the obvious facts. Halo CE is too simple.

Hello! Feel free to some Cobbler as this ODST stares at you.

To each his own.
All I need to say about Halo 2 is this. This statement sums up my entire views, and most of the Communities thoughts. Here it is.

"We want our damn Headlong back!"

  • 03.15.2011 8:52 PM PDT

If you didn't Play Halo: CE or Halo 2 MP, your opinion about Halo means nada.

CE + H2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>> H3+Reach+H4

I know exactly what you mean. the past few days I went back and have been playing BF2: MC.

theres still a small community that plays but what amazed me most was the communication. almost everyone was in game chat and communcating.

"Heavy tank rolling to flag 4"
"Im going to flank flag 2, someone gaurd flag 3"
" Sniper on the rooftops!"
"hey sorry for that betrayal man" "No worries"

just little things like that. I didnt know anyone in the game but we were all talking like we were best buds, and thats what I realized has been missing from FPS games like.

everyone is hiding in party chat, camping in a corner somewhere with a sniper, scared someone will yell at them.

I miss the H2 days and would love for a XBLA remake or something, but it will NEVER be the same like it was back in its prime :(

There were plenty of games to compare it to. HL1, UT99, and other PC games. Halo 1 was mainly big because it was one of the first console FPSes, so everyone played it. Of course, the console kids wanted it to be easier, so Bungie delivered with H2.

If anything, people who believe to prefer Halo:CE as the best in the trilogy are only blinded by the fact that it was the first game to come out, so to say that it "deserves the best recognition". People like you are the most nostalgic, constantly ignoring the obvious facts. Halo CE is too simple.

Nope. Just watch this.

It's not nostalgia, as compare the numbers for Halo 2 and Halo 1.

Halo 1 is one of the most played PC games, and still has a strong community. Halo 2: Nope.avi.

Halo 2 has a shattered, drama filled community on the PC.

Agree so much on that one.. Now that Bungie is making their games "kid/n00b friendly" there will always be people hiding in party chat etc.

Halo 2 was n00b friendly, with micless people and stolen snipers.

Halo Reach: Adapting to Randomness.

what you're not taking into account is the TYPE of people who play reach as opposed to the TYPE of people who played H2. H2 was hyper competitive, and the majority of the 12 year olds who got r@ped, left and played another game. In reach, it's a big random stupid idiot fest because the skill gap is so blurred. If halo 2 came back, only the true players would play it. Unfortunately, that is exactly why it would never happen. The "bad kids" pay the bills. Without them, bungie makes no* money off their game.

That happened all the time back during the days of Halo 2. I think I've actually encountered it less on Halo 3 and Reach.

Yeah, I haven't seen weapon betrayals in a long time, just weapon whoring.

Man you really blow at arguing. First, I just want to say that you can refer to that post back in the pc forums where I made an @ss of yourself in probably every way possible. I'll give you an idea to why you've made yourself already look like an @ss for a second time: You're in the Halo 2 forum. You tried to compare Halo PC's population with that of Halo 2 for the PC. GOod fcking job.

OT:

1. You didn't understand what I meant by comparison. There was no game that had as much depth as Halo CE did at the time. The campaign was/is lightyears ahead of the others. Graphics were considered godly. You could never fly a damn vehicle to destroy enemies and generally there wasn't an FPS that included driving and killing with vehicles. Basically, the game was considered revolutionary, in these terms. It didn't get big because it was one of the first FPS's for the console. Xbox original sales exploded only because Halo:CE. Clearly there was something(s) that halo had that none others had.

And no, you're referring to the PC's release. Split screen was the only thing available. By the time Halo 2 had 2 years of development, the CE port had just been released. Bungie didn't respond to the "cries of the kids" for not being able to kill because a) there were no ties between the players and the developers and b) killing people on the xbox version (original) is 5x's easier than killing someone in the PC version (online-which is what you are clearly referring to).

2. You can't compare a game's population when one of the original releases didn't even have live. You wanna compare Halo 2 (on xboxLive ) during its prime time and Halo CE (PC version) during its prime time? I guarantee you that Halo 2's population was 1000x's more than Halo PC EVER had. Halo 2 was the most played Live game in the market for 3 consecutive years.

3. "Halo 2 has a shattered, drama filled community on the PC."

This doesn't even mean anything. I kind of don't know how to go about this for a response. sigh.

Clearly there was something(s) that halo had that none others had.

Timesplitters was first, Goldeneye was a big console FPS before Halo, and Duke Nukem 3d for the Saturn had official online play. Graphics were considered decent, but only because it was an Xbox game. And there were games where you could fly stuff and get kills before Halo 1. It introduced those to console kids, and it helped make those features popular.

And no, you're referring to the PC's release. Split screen was the only thing available. By the time Halo 2 had 2 years of development, the CE port had just been released. Have you played XBC? It's even worse then Halo PC.

Halo 2 was only that because the Xbox 1 was filled with shovelware PS2 ports without online play, and since it was overhyped, kids bought it and jerked off to it, being brainwashed about it.

As for population, I think everyone in the maw wants to have a word with you. Even though Halo PC didn't have exactly as many people, it felt more active with servers instead of crapmaking. It was a better game overall, and still has many players VS Halo 2 pre-shutdown announcement and today. Combine Kai, XBC, and H2V, and you still have fewer people then Halo PC alone. And that's not counting Custom Ed and Trial.
