Reprogram the portal at Voi.

Maybe if they found another Halo, caught the Monitor, make it reprogram the ancient wiring beneath the portal, we would probally enter the inside of it.

Also, Having never ead any of the books, is the Micro Dyson sphere similiar to the sphere world in Halo Wars? You know, thousands of random lakes and hills inside the fake crust?

Not at all in any way. ONYX was literally made of the most powerful sentinels...billions of them. One by itself could kill a Capital Ship with it's weapon, and it's pretty big, but not that much bigger than normal.

The HW Shield World is likely just an older idea by forerunners, a planet they hollowed out.

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

If we go really technical we can't really talk about anything higher than three dimensional in normal sense. We already know that normal laws of physics don't apply in slipspace. After all, we are just beings living in a three dimensional universe (four if we count time).
Oh, yeah... silly me.

If you can find the installations monitor (smiler to 343 Guilty Spark; 2401 Penitent Tangent) and have them teleported back to the surface, much like 343 did teleporting the chief inside the index library, then your in good hands.

But do Onyx and the Micro Dyson Sphere have the same monitor? If they don't have, I doupt their protocol allows them to teleport between the Micro Dyson Sphere and Onyx.

If Onyx even has a Monitor it would be tasked with the upkeep of both the Dyson Sphere and the shell around it. The Micro Dyson Sphere is a part of Onyx, the whole thing is a Shield World and would have the same Monitor if it even has one at all. I don't know if it necessarily would, we'll just have to wait and see.

The Micro Dyson Sphere isn't connected to Onyx in any way except with the portal. It exists in slipspace as Onyx exists in regular space. It may also be that Onyx doesn't have a monitor but the Micro Dyson Sphere has. I believe that it wouldn't be allowed to travel between Onyx and Micro Dyson Sphere as monitors are usually very restricted to their task. For example 343 Guilty Spark didn't know about Delta Halo if I remember correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't like cocaine, I just like the way it smells.

It has been stated that The Forerunner Trilogy will eventually turn into a sequel of Ghosts of Onyx. So just wait till the rest of the books come out. And because it's gonna be part of the Trilogy, your Forerunner theory shouldn't be too far off :).

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

No, Karen Traviss is writing the post-GoO trilogy. Greg Bear is sticking with the Forerunners pre-Halo activation.

O.K. I'll remember to do that the next time I see one floating down the street. :\

Well,

Observe and take note of the resonant frequency of the collapsed space surrounding the sphere, it should be a fractal, work through the equation until you are satisfied that the one you choose will match an area within the sphere.

Modify your spatial resonant frequency to match that of your target destination and you should in theory breach the sphere, the best thing is you can observe the "local" spatial resonance frequency from a Very large distance ergo negating any trouble with the sentinels. Best thing is this procedure wont be picked up by the sentinels who's sensors seem to be only scanning the the active space and slipspace within the limits of linear time.
by changing your base frequency to match that of your target destination you immediately match the target frequency and therefore you are there.
as the compression of the slipspace field would worry some, if you do the math correctly you should not suffer any scale issues upon your arrival.
Just so long as the halo universe allows real time subatomic observance technologically then this process is im my view how to release the guys from the sphere.

just a thought

Find another Onyx!

I'll explain.

The portal at the center of onyx was just a gateway to the Dyson Sphere which lay in slipspace.

It was never said in the book that the Sphere they went to was directly connected to the Onyx planet alone.

There could have been many Onyx Planets that fired up as the Dyson Sphere activated, especialy concidering the size of the Dyson Sphere itself.

Halsey estimated that the distance from the surface to the centre was about the same distance as from the Earth to the Sun.

After some quick calculation, I worked out the the complete inside surface area of the Sphere is
278'844'560'000'000'000km squared, or more simply...

278'844 TRILLION square kilometeres.
That is a stunning 546 MILLION times the surface area on Earth.
I just don't see why there would only be one Onyx instalation connected to it.

TL;DR
There is probably other instalations like Onyx connected to the Dyson Sphere which have not been completly destroyed. All you have to do is find one and open the portal to the Sphere.
:)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 4th dimension alone uses numbers too large for the human mind to comprehend. It might not be that simple.

Pretty sure it's widely accepted that the 4th dimension is just time.

Not so hard for humanity to calculate a 3 dimensional position at a specific time (4th dimension).

Ah-ha! That could link the Legendary Halo 3 cutscene to Onyx!!
NOW we know how this all is gonna play out! The only problem is that the Installations are no longer on standby.
But you know. He could just "shoot his way [in], mix things up a little."

I'm just your average idiot savant.

Maybe some Sentinels somewhere were activated by Onyx's destruction and go to investigate the status of the slipspace bubble, using a backup portal linked to it, only to find Dr. Halsey there.

I don't like cocaine, I just like the way it smells.

Possibly. Wait? Was Onyx destroyed? I thought the Sentinels came apart, then put the planet back together?

onyx probably dident have a monitor the oynx sentinels were likely intellignt enough to be tasked with upkeep of the instilation themselves
/conjecture
