Subject: What Was the Biggest Mistake of the Human-Covenant War?

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

In my opinion, I think the greatest flaw was the Changing of the Guard. I mean the Brutes are stronger than Elites, but Elites are better at tactics so they knew more about war than Brutes, and Brutes are idiots. Also the Elites were probably one of the most important if not the most important species in the Covenant, and when they left the Covenant fell apart.
What do you think the biggest mistake was?

Yep.

Had truth never betrayed the elites. There wouldn't have been any hope for humanity.

The UNSC not putting as many resources as possible into reverse engineering covenant ship tech and upgrading their fleets.

Truth deciding to betray the elites before he found the ark.

Ackerson wasting the unlimited potential of having a spartan army by sending the S-III' on suicide missions.

Truth backstabbing the Elites is especially ironic as in Contact Harvest he says to himself that if the Elites were ever given reason to rise up and fight the other species, well there goes the Covenant XD

Maybe Truth realised that Elites aren't ideal to start the great journey.I mean wouldn't a sangheili wonder why it takes a Human to activate the Forerunner relics.Truth probably knew that the Elites themself would discover the truth and rebel, that's why he secretly prepared the Brutes to take over the military.

That's why Ripa was ideal to be an Arbiter, unlike other Sangheili he doesn't ask questions, same with the Brutes.

All this is true, I just find it very ironic that he did the very thing he knew would completely tear the Covenant apart.

Do you know what kind of hat I'm wearing?

A party hat; you don't get one. An honor will this party be, a party in your honor, for your honor. Some of Tfear's personal guards are going to be there. You'll be introduced shortly.

Prepare to die.

I agree with you, why in the world would they switch the Guards for the Brutes.

That's like switching a Mongoose for a Cobra.

The prophets really are fools.I read an article on halopedian about the prophet that apeeared in The Flood book and it's his fault that the UNSC and Flood weren't dealt with quickly.

Humanity not focusing on research and development.

Instead they built thousands of the same exact pieces of equipment that DIDN'T work against the Covenant.

What? They gave their spartans energy shields and other things.

I'm going to say nerfing the Halo 1 pistol, that could have shotten down Covenant Capital Ships.

They did, but not marines and ODST's. Since they were the main ones fighting the covenant they needed it the most.

Definitely changing the guard. The Covenant lost the war thanks to that mistake.

But that's also one of the main problems in Halo 2, they seem to prefer the Brutes for no apparent reason, and suddenly they start killing the Elites so that they join humanity. It was a really cheap way to turn the tides of the war, instead of something more... creative.

I think the Prophets thought that the Elites were starting to see that the Great Journey was a lie. So the Prophets couldn't have them as their guards. I think this because Truth said that the Elites "never believed in the Great Journey".

Do you have any idea how expensive the energy shields are for soldiers? They're quite a tidy sum, probably one of the more expensive pieces of equipment that a Spartan has. A Spartan II costs almost as much as a single UNSC warship.

I think master chief's biggest mistake was trusting the guilty spark even after he betrayed him multiple times. Sgt. major would still be alive.

The main reason why the Prophets overthrew the Elites from military command and replaced them with Brutes because the number of Hereitics was constantly increasing.

The Elites were gradually becoming more aware of the Prophets lies and were drifting away from the covenant. The Elites were so intelligent that the Hierarchs were losing control of the Elites faith towards the covenant.

The Prophets saw the Elites as a growing threat and their usefulness had run it's course. The Brutes, mindless, loyal and extremely strong as they were, were a great replacement for the Elites.

The Brutes would serve the Prophets through anything and everything. So, the overthrow of the Elites was not a bad descision. If the Prophets did not act as they did, the Elites would have surely had the upper hand and would've eventually betrayed the covenant.

TL:DR-The Prophets made the right choice by overthrowing the Elites.

They had 150 initially but many of them died due to augmentation.

Humanity was a weak inferior race. Humanity did not win themselves, they won because they convinced another alien race to join them in the last month of their war.

Humanity lost out in the end, the lost hundred of colonies and I'm guessing 85% of their population.

The reason finding halo was such a game changer was that humanity was able to find out its purpose and ultimately convince the elites to join them.

There were a number of factors that led to the elites growing distrust, and the most important one was the discovery and eventual destruction of halo.

I'm sorry, but you cannot possibly say that the right choice was the one that led to their deaths. That is in fact the opposite of a right choice. However the prophets did not exactly have a choice. The elites would all have slowly learned the truth and rebelled either way, the prophets just sped it up.

the prophets decided to betray the elites and replace them with brutes... why?

its because the elites failed to protect the hier-archs. they failed to protect regret

I had a dream that I was king, I woke up still king.

I would have to say not having a massive reserve fleet at Reach with more super MAC's. Halo 2 made Earth look like it had more protection from the Covenant than Reach.
