Subject: Brutes, what do you guys think of them?

Well, as the title suggests, what do you guys all think of the Brutes? I think they're kinda cool in their own savage sort of way, but they're definitely not my favorite Covie. I know I definitely would not want to hang out with one, would probably wind up getting my head ripped off in argument. I don't think they're all that bright, they at least aren't very inquisitive, otherwise we probably would have had some Brute Heretics, not to say there haven't been, but they would probably be very small in number. I must say that in Contact Harvest I rather liked Maccabeus, he was much more honorable and even tempered than any other Brute we've seen, and he seemed to be somewhat questioning the Great Journey at the end of his life. I think most Brutes though are the opposite, savage, dishonorable, rather thick headed, and they definitely seem to be ruled by their tempers.

What do you guys think of them?

despite the wall of text, I will answer the part of the question I read.

i liked Brutes in Halo 3, but not in Reach. They went from Gorilla-Rhino-Elephants to Rat-Pigs.

Gorilla-Rhino-Elephants > Rat-Pigs.

H3 Brutes > Reach Brutes > H2 Brutes
In Halo 3 the cheiftains actually got me kinda scared, especially on legendary with invincibility. Halo 2 they just charged repetitively and were annoying. Halo Reach they were these weird Goblin/Cavemen that were bullet sponges

-bow chicka brown cow-

in halo 2 they were gorillas. in halo 3 they were bears. in halo reach they were -BLAMING- HAIRLESS TROLL CATS

I didn't think it was a wall really, but ok, sorry, didn't think I needed any paragraph in there.

Yeah, that seems to be the common opinion. I don't really care what they look like though as long they still feel like Brutes to me, which Reach's ones still do, and I get to kill them XD

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

HAAATE them in every way you can hate something. Gameplay dynamics, looks, behavior, story fit, I just hate them in every way.

I am the Troll King.

The halo 3 ones/ the ODST ones were tough. The rest.....well not so much.

Well, it wasn't so much a wall, but anything mildly long is hard to follow.

I really did like the H3 Brutes though. They were a threat. Reach Brutes just seems to charge on sight and soak up bullets. It's really annoying because I have to distance myself from them while pouring rounds into their armor until it falls off. Then I see their ungly, Naked Mole Rat visage.

Halo 3 > Halo Reach > Halo 2

I choose Reach over 2 because they actually have variety displaying their ranks unlike in Halo 2. Similar to Halo 3 but in Halo 3 they were trying to make them as much as Elites with their armor and such.

Well they DID replace Elites in Halo 3. It seems logical to define ranks clearly like the Elites.

The Brutes in Halo 2 scared me the most because of them being frakkin' invincible bullet sponges. The ones in Reach, except for those shielded ones (remind me alot of Halo 2's), are pretty easy to kill, imo.

Halo 3/ODST are definitely the best incarnation of the Brutes yet.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Sort of went downhill from Halo 2.

Haha.

OT:
I hate Brutes, with a passion. They are interesting in no way, shape or form.

Brutes are actually dwarf versions of Mordor trolls.

Anyway, I have not really paid that much attention to them. I do know that they view the concept of honour as being a waste of time. You cannot really hold that against them though. It is not like there is any galactic standard to compare races to.

  • 03.16.2011 7:13 PM PDT

Don't like them at all.

Other than their role in the story I hate everything about them.

You were totally and absolutely correct in every way, I don't know why we were arguing, you're so amazing I should never have doubted you.

Tartarus > Halo 3 Brutes > Halo 2 Brutes > Halo Reach Brutes.

the halo 2 brutes were easily the toughest. In Halo 3, they sucked, in Reach they were a bit better, but in 2 it was nearly impossible to kill a Brute without a Carbine.

I am Field Master Avu Med 'Telcam, Servant of the Abiding Truth, and I have many brothers.

A god who creates tools is still a god. It is not for us to impose qualifications upon the divine or presume to guess its intentions.

I completely hate everything about them.

But for aesthetic and gameplay reasons, I'd prefer the Halo 2 Brutes, but with Halo 3 Weapons. They shouldn't have much armor, they are bullet sponges. They shouldn't just throw their hands in the air when they get shot, they should beserk. They are brutes. And use the Halo 3 weapons. Because for god's sake who decided it made any sense to give Brutes UNSC shotguns?

HAHA XD Yeah, kinda, they actually do remind me a lot of Trolls, on the whole rather thick and pretty much live to fight, and that's all they're really good for XD

Ah ok, I probably could have started the topic better. Going back and rereading it, it does seem kind of long winded and rambling XD

Hmm, the AI for Brutes in Reach seems just about the same as always to me. Well they certainly win the "ugly as sin" award, they're like hairless albino Brutes or something XD though they don't look all that drastically different to me.

I like to play Devil's Advocate

Any faults with Halo 2 brutes I can forgive. to quote a random youtube comment

Imagine a world where Bungie had enough time to finish Halo 2

And it's true to some extent, however, Halo 3 brutes came around...and damn, Kickass, Best incarnation For sure.

Now...Reach comes along...

Ugh.....

That is unforgivable.

Halo 3 Brutes > Halo 2 Brutes > The Package's rendtion of Halsey > Reach Brutes
