Subject: What if the Brutes in Reach were....

Dark Neptune, a young amateur astronomer whose gaming life is no different from other teenagers of his age, though he controls it more strictly then others.

....more like the Flood?

As in, they tend to do more charging and bashing than shooting, ala Halo 2/3 berserk style?

Perhaps they would have been more fun to fight, rather than standing there and dumbly collecting bullets while firing their lame weapons.

I thought they would have been better if they did more charging-melees at you, just like the Flood in previous games. That way, we don't have to keep begging 343i or some future game developer to give us Flood in future games' Firefight modes.

What do you think?

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

I think we should have fought rebels in Reach. Not only are we fending off the Covenant out in space, we have to come back to our home and kill our own people. It would have made the story much deeper.

But as we know, Bungie has an aversion to killing humans.

They seem to forget their game is rated M and that their entire multiplayer structure is based off slaughtering humans by the hundreds. But when it comes to a potentially good story element "oh no, just keep with teh alienz."

It disappoints me greatly. Could have made some great 3-way battles.

the brutes should have been more agro in reach, but i think the idea in halo 3 was that they were supposed 2 be scary because they were taking over from the elites.

reach is set before then,( if u don't know that ur a NOOB) so i think the brutes r ment 2 seem like the underdogs or something.

if there is some1 reading this what do u think. :)

Posted by: THA rofltardYou're right, but at the same time Brutes are just awful. They are so bland to fight, nothing but bullet sponges easily killable because all they do is strafe.

  • 03.16.2011 8:35 PM PDT

what they could have done is at least made the brutes run at u like psychos on legendary difficulty.

They should have included Berserk in them, it's what made Brutes brutes. They could kill you in one swing but could also die in one.

I miss the 3-way battles of Combat Evolved and 2. Charging through High Charity while Brutes and Elites had it out was extremely fun, and somewhat useful on Legendary.

i miss then too! the only ones in halo 3 are on the last level when its you-flood-sentinels. ODST lacked them for obvious reasons, but Reach could have used them at east in the first level or two. I remember Halo wars having 3 way battles with rebels and covenant as well

Yup, the "killing Humans Taboo" which had existed since the dawn of time. Did you know Space Invaders was originally going to have you shoot at enemy soldiers, but later they changed the enemies to aliens because, well, of the pressure imposed by the publishers.

Actually the berserk feature was half-intergrated into Elites. When you pop their shields they will stand on the spot and et out a warcry for about a second, perfect for headshot.

What i'm wondering is what's with the hairless brutes?... they just look stupid now. I will say that Cheiftans are much better. I am a little dissapointed in the Gravity hammer though.. In H3 that hammer was scary, and i'm still scared of it. Now the chieftans only swing it like a bat, with the gravity wave nowwhere to be seen. I still like fighting brutes though, they're still pretty stupid and needlers are still epic against them...

Well, there isn't really a point to fighting rebels. After the Covenant show up the rebels would fight the aliens more then the UNSC, as they are the bigger threat.

There were still several opportunities for improvement in this category. Bungie could have had you fight rebels for a few levels and have had the game timeline fit better.

If they don't want that much human on human fighting (it could get boring after awhile...) then they could have you begin the game fighting innies, and when the Covenant comes there could be an epic three way battle. Later on in the level you could run into an important rebel and have a scarab-on-the-Great-Journey moment where you team up to fight the greater threat.

This would also give the game more plot twists, something that was sorely lacking.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

So much more fun. The Halo 2 Brutes were the best because you were pretty much always in a cramped space and they would just charge and punch until you didn't move anymore. Surprisingly they were best when they were just angry bullet sponges, not tactical thinkers.

  • 03.17.2011 5:36 PM PDT

I like pie. Especially pizza pie.

It would be cool if they made something like zombies in halo.

Yeah, halo 2 berserking you were afraid of if they could reach you. Halo 3/ODST? when they did Berserk, it didn't really do much at all.

No armor?

*Fires Carbines*

*Headshot*

Problem solved.

In many ways, a Brute berserking and wanting to hit you, with their relatively high damage resistance, is actually similar to the Flood lunging at you. Only difference I can think of besides aesethics is that Flood forms continue to fire their weapons, while Brutes toss them away instead.

If anything, Brutes in Reach should have just been the Brute Chieftains themselves, but I miss the Golden-armor Chieftain design from Halo 3 and ODST, you know, those Chieftains that spam Fuel Rods or Plasma Turret projectiles. Those look badass.

But I still have mixed feelings about the lack of the Invulnerability equipment usage by Brute Hammer Chieftains. They were a total nightmare in ODST's Firefight, especially when trying to help your long-time get that Vidmaster achievement without having to redo the enitre damn thing again.

I like the Mk V armor.

I hate them now.

But I like the new look, but I wish all the old ones were in too, given them that feel of Barbaric, aggressive, not stupid, but easy to piss off enemies. Then, depending on what happened to make them freak, they either Halo-2 berserk(Killed all his lovers) or almost killed him sending him into an adrenaline rush(Halo 3/ODST), so yea, make them much stronger, like a true Jiralhanae.

I also wish some brutes had head hair like the Army Commander, but no beard, or both. Just a huge variety of looks from half shaved to mostly shaved to fully shaved to gorilla. Or even Tattooed hair, like dyed hair, but you know it's dyed because most of it's brown, but the rest is yellow and a in a weird symbol.

I mean, Halo 3: ODST brought just barely brought back their "scary-ness". But Ha-3 made me think that brutes were just elites in costumes with anger problems, not that I hated them.

I would've liked hairy brutes with full armor, and you can see some sticky out. I would've liked brutes to tear those civvies up, even though Halo doesn't remove body parts, it'd be a cool cut-scene to introduce them.

And make the corvette on Long Night of Solace more explorable, and you can attack brute dock workers, who immediately berserk.

Flood, scary? It's more likely than you think.
