Subject: How do Plasma weapons work?

As many of you know, I am a giant technology nerd. I've been thinking recently about how covenant plasma weapons work. I've come up short however, so I'm hoping with all the hundreds of theories that circulate these forums, whether you have a theory on what plasma weapons actually are.

What do we know about them?

They do not use "plasma", it is a generic term.
They are reverse engineered from Forerunner hard-light based weaponry.
They transfer both heat and kinetic energy to their target.
They use magnetic fields to control and contain them.

So, Bnet, amaze me! What are the covenant using to shoot us?

Who says they aren't plasma? They are.

i use a metal gun wash my face with liquid and breath gas
plasma is a state of matter not an element or compound
specifics plzz

Yes, yes you are correct. Plasma is a state of matter. Would you like a gold star for that?

If I had a starting point I would have posted it. What "specifics" would you like?

An assassin will always carry on, even after death.

I think it's like a missile. in the centre is the solid metal(or something else) guidiance system, this guidance system also projects a magnetic field around it to keep the plasma, and to stop the plasma touching the system(it would melt).

Thats what I think plasma torpedos are.

what ever it is, the trigger is not connected what so ever to the shooting mechanizim.

read that from Halsey Journal.

Hmmm... their weapons act just like plasma as we know it. And any ionized gas is considered plasma, so I find this to be strage.

True enough, but surely they would have to carry their own supply of gas? Otherwise it's only going to work in a tiny fraction of habitible planets.

Maybe they are closer to Forerunner technology than we think, in that they shoot a "hard" photon, or a number of them. A side effect of which is energy lost as light and heat.

technicaly it could be plasma if the wepons had a strong magnetic piece inside them that could strip any gas or matter of its elctrons

p.s. plasma is an atom striped of electrons
p.s.s. that last comment is for people that didn't know.

Well gas can easily be compressed, so that's not a problem.

As for forerunner tech, my guess is that the covenant could not make the forerunner's "hard light" and decided to substitute it with plasma.

Possibly....brb gonna go do some research, I find this intriguing.
