Well since that noble team isn't real, then is Spartan 3 real.
Oh also how comes Spartan 3 cant duel wield.

I am the PHILOSORAPTOR!

Noble Team was entirely real, so I'm not sure why you would even think that. To answer your question, the spartan III's were a cheaper (cost-effective you might say) versions of the very successful spartan II's. I'm not sure about the dual-weilding issue, but there is the answer to your first question.

  • 03.17.2011 4:55 PM PDT

The one guy i talked to said that noble team in the books wasn't real.

  • 03.17.2011 4:58 PM PDT

Head Down/ Chin Up!

The duel weilding thing was a gaming choice! Nothing storyline wise! Bungie just decided they didnt want duel wield in their game!

(Bungie > 343i)

"In actuality, ODSTs, SPARTAN-IIIs and even regular marines should be able to dual-wield. The reason given that these others cannot dual-wield is that their HUD does no support two weapons, but the main reason is a gameplay mechanic." -Halo Wiki

I'd rather be able to throw grenades and melee than dual wield.

  • 03.17.2011 5:03 PM PDT

I now its not story wise. I just asked.

  • 03.17.2011 5:13 PM PDT

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Whether or not Noble Team existed, the S-IIIs would have still existed genius... their were like 900 of them...

Fail on the wiki's part. Spartan II's in Mark V or IV had that same issue.

I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear

Noble team was very real. They were never mentioned in the books though. Kurt never mentioned it neither did Ackerson. However, they released a "classified" report of Bnet about how Kurt pulled the Noble team members out before they were deployed. Pretty much creating a loop-hole so they can say Noble existed.

  • 03.17.2011 7:19 PM PDT

Any S-III who met the genetic criteria of the S-II program were pulled and given MJOLNIR. Like Noble Team, and the handful of other S-III's they mention pulling.

Gauntlet and Echo team are likely made of these SIII's, which fought on Reach along with Noble & Red team. They are mentioned in New Alexandria.

Anyways, most of the S-III's were indeed cheaper sub-par Spartans due to the wider gene pool and the less advanced armor, but their augmentations accomplished the same results via different methods. Most of the S-III's just are crappier specimens. Augmenting Olympic athletes, as compared to augmenting college athletes. Same boost, but drastic difference in starting material.

It's important to note that the augmentations accomplished the same results chemically rather than surgically, and didn't kill two thirds of the class.

The Spartan IIs were bio-augmented and trained before the Covenant War began. During the Covenant War one of the Spartan IIs (Kurt) was taken to the planet Onyx to train a new breed of Spartans. These Spartans, the Spartan IIIs, would be smaller, weaker and far less expensive than the original Spartans but would still be far better than any other soldier. After they selected them some of them were taken out for seperate training. These Spartan IIIs (along with Jorge, who was a Spartan II, who also may have been trained seperately) became Noble team. As far as we know Noble Team were the only Spartan IIIs to wear MJOLNIR. THe rest of the Spartan IIIs war some cheap armour that got them all (most of them) killed, however it had built in Active Camo.

Also the removal of dual-weilding was just for gameplay reasons. In Halo 1 you couldn't dual-weild and you still played as the Master Cheif.

"Ignorance is a plague."

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

Yes, Spartan IIIs did exist. However, there were a lot of issues with the information provided about Noble team. For example, we are told that Carter is from Alpha company, but they were all killed long before the battle of Reach.

Edit: They did make the loophole that states that some Spartan IIIs were taken out of the company and given Mjolnir armor.

It really isn't a loophole. The Headhunters Program makes sense of Noble's position.

Didn't they get killed by the Onyx Sentinels?

  • 03.17.2011 9:52 PM PDT

That was the best 30 of them, and yea most of them did. The rest were sent off shortly before GoO took place.

It is mentioned in Ghosts of Onyx page 99 that Spartan-IIIs were in fact augmented via surgery.

"They'd be sedated and injected with chemical cocktails and surgically altered . . ."

No, they were deployed before the battle of Onyx. Only the teams fighting for Honours grade stayed on Onyx.

Fix'd
Lol, the book that mentions the BNet report?

I'm sorry, but that's a little... shortsighted.
