The only place in Libya that is really on a time constraint is Misurata. If the siege there is lifted then we can protect other cities with airstrikes. I would think.

and Misrata's supply line just got cut, they most likely only have a week before the city falls

Well that's no good. Why exactly haven't the rebels been able to break the stalemate?
Gaddafi keeps sending waves of troops to Misurata. He is determined to beat the rebels there into submission. As for the attack on the port, apparently the Turkish hospital ship that was in port wasn't hit but is no longer able to render aid.

Canada becomes the First Coalition country to formally declare war on Libya. While vowing to keep more boots off the ground pending the war crimes investigation, they have sent another 12 CF-18s and re purposed all of their craft to be used ONLY for strike missions.

Y'know I was talking to a friend today about hypothetically moving to Canada. This display isn't hurting that opinion. However, is there any chance this is only happening because it's an election season?
indeed it is. I actually updated that post as you were typing :P

Haha well there ya go! Still, doing the right thing for the wrong reason is still doing the right thing.

Well if the aid ship can no longer supply aid, isn't that an excuse for some countries to send in "security" forces? I think Germany was talking about that.

They were, however NATO countries said that no soldiers in any capacity will be sent in until the investigation is over. if found guilty it sounds like the gloves come off.

reading further on it, it looks like the 2 opposition parties (Liberals and NDP)both voted unanimously in agreement of this move. interesting.

Ahh, see I was thinking that some NATO countries might go in without the alliance, but then again NATO is in charge of the operation. Lol it's a shame Qatar doesn't have any military might.

Harper is also saying that within 3 weeks(end of elections) they want to mobilize the entire strike capacity of 3 Wing Canada (2 squadrons of 40 CF-18s) to Libya and take up 20% of NATO's strikes.

indeed, however you can't expect a country with a GDP that is 143 times smaller than that of the US to have a huge military.

Of course not. I was being a tad facetious. If they had the military might of a Western European country they probably wouldn't just use it willy-nilly in Libya. They would take precautions like we are.

A rebel cell in Tripoli has started attacking Gaddafi forces in the city via Guerrilla tactics. There have also be 3 small, but loud pro-democracy protests today in Tripoli. They all dispersed before Gaddafi forces arrived.

The cake is a pie

After thinking daily about where i stand on this issue, i'de like to ask you all something. What do we, the 1st world civilians, want to happen. Not that I reject their cause but why are we so quick to support the rebels when they too are a military faction. Where is the good side in all this? because all i see is a bad side and a worse side.

What's so bad about the rebels?

Also why the hell would we even consider Gaddafi as a lesser evil when he's been shelling the hell out of his own people for several months now?

it comes down to the fact that the rebels started as pro-democracy protesters who weren't even armed.

Then Gaddafi started to order his army to fire on the un-armed civilians. They were forced to arm themselves to survive. Some military officials defected and joined the rebels. The rebels don't even have a real military. they are a bunch of civilians with no military experience fighting a military hell bent on killing them. What started as a protest for democracy turned into a war between civilians and the government. Most of their weapons are captured from the soldiers.

now for the rebels it is democracy or die.

over a million people moved out to protest against the Syrian Government, proving it was not a secular uprising, and was instead a protest for political freedom the protesters were not just Sunni, but also Jews and Christians. the size of the crowds of protesters is 1 in every 20 Syrians.

Gaddafi forces have taken to fire cluster bomb style artillery into Misurata. by virtue to the inaccuracy of these weapons, they are killing civilians. there is massive collateral damage being incurred with entire buildings being demolished.
