05/05 19:02 About a dozen loyalist mortar rounds have landed in the Tunisian boarder town of Dehiba, coming very close to destroying their drinking supply. the UN threatens aggressive ground action if such occurrences continue.

Awww come on UN. Threatening them isn't going to stop Gadaffi.

Hey, I have a question. In the first gulf war the UN went all out and won in a matter of weeks. Not that I'm certain we should, but why aren't we doing this?.

Because nobody, including the Libyan civilians (at the moment at least) want to see a THIRD western invasion of a Muslim country. However at this point we might as well. I mean, this is a complete stalemate. I've seen no news for days. Even Al Jazeera isn't keepin a daily blog anymore. The only info i find is here.

last thing i saw was video of an evacuation. most news has been full of Bin Ladens death anyway.

THATS IT! NATO needs boots on the ground RIGHT NOW because its now apparent we don't have the air power to keep up this no fly zone. even if they were modified crop dusters...

Mortar's continue to land in Tunisian town of Dahiba, with 30 have been confirmed

Exactly. Intervening in a domestic crisis in a country is one thing, attacking another country is another.

If the US cracked down on protests no one would try to intervene, if we started bombing Canada they would.

Sorry I'm confused who you mean is Intervening and attacking another country. NATO or the loyalists. It's just that NATO is intervening and the Loyalists are attacking the Tunisian border. Plz explain?

Sorry.

NATO intervening in Libya for domestic troubles is one thing (harder to do and to justify why would should be there). If Libya attacks Tunisia then there is much less needed to justify attacking Libya.

The cycle goes
Dictator fights rebels
Rebels beat dictator or Dictator beats rebels
Rebels win-New government created but turns into a dictatorship and starts to mistreat its civilians.New Rebels are created.
Same thing again

This certainly didn't happen in the English civil war, and you could consider the Parliamentarians to be rebels. It also hasn't happened in Ejypt.

The rebels sem to have good intentions. Their forces are widely civilian, so i expect they will get what they want if given the chance.

The English civil war was a long time ago, things are diffrent now. And the Egyptians have been protesting against the army which has taken control after Mubarak. And the protests have been broken up with tear gas and gunfire. Sounds like what happened to Mubarak

Rebels advance 18 miles toward Tripoli from Misrata

CNN will also have a report tomorrow from a reporter who just came back from Tripoli, he says Tripoli is not pro Gaddafi and people are living in fear of Loyalists in the city.

Exactly. A strong, US led Blitzkrieg could completely secure Mizurata in the hands of the Rebels. The Loyalist cant repel firepower of that magnitude. The Brits could cover us with Naval Artillery and NATO Planes would cover the sky as US, British, and tanks from other countries ripped through Libya.
not sure if that's the way to go here. US has said no matter what happens their troops will not set foot on the ground.

that said a Special Ops led NATO ground operation would be sensible. 3 of the 4 main contributing countries(Canada, US, Britain and France) have legendary special forces that could really turn the tide there.

There are reports of a 'full scale uprising' in the suburbs of Tripoli. Rebels in the city started fighting Gaddafi forces in the streets after being supplied with light arms. Reporters were to far away to confirm sounds of gunfire.

With uprisings in Tripoli, it gives them some ground to really crack down in Tripoli. My guess is they're using the uprisings there to take out more military posts in the capital to try and help those rebels get some ground in the capital.

Western Tripoli is under ongoing fighting now from a newly emerged cell of Rebels. The rebel flag now flys over Tripoli's airbase.
