Phoenix, you said the Yemen peace deal is dead, are there any details on what happened exactly or has the president simply not transferred power because of less media coverage?
Protests continue as the High level officials refuse to step down from the jobs they agreed to leave under a Gulf Cooperation Council peace agreement. No further fighting as of yet.

why the hell hasn't there been a U.S Deployment?
I don't give a damn about the fact we'll look bad, we have 50,000 troops in iraq ALONE. reroute a 1000. any amount will help right?

Politics. Simple enough. They don't want troops over there cause the public will complain. So they won't deploy, no matter what.
That and the UN hasn't given the official go ahead yet to put boots on the ground. There's a 40 country coalition here too. It doesn't need to be US troops, so why send in troops that will cause political unrest at home when a country who's people will support the push can and will do it.

It's also worth noting that the US is now $14.3 TRILLION in debt. They can't afford to spend any more.

EDIT: It might be worth pointing out that over 70% of Canadians, British and French fully support the Libya Campaign.
While 60% of Americans support current US involvement only 23% would like the US to provide further support.

It would be so funny if Gaddafi was having one of those arrogant speeches then gets airstriked by NATO.

while they aren't protecting Gaddafi, NATO is not trying to kill Gaddafi. The rebels want him alive to stand trial after all.

Canada prepares for a Kosovo level of involvement in Libya, and has also started preparing a 300 man strong Blue Helmet peacekeeper unit to help keep the peace if peace talks open.

why do we have military bases in the middle east then?
Bush maybe didn't make the popular choices, but he made the ones that counted.

LOL. Bush was an idiot, his invasion Iraq was a personal vendetta and he showed his stupidity and disregard for military history when he invaded Afghanistan. Not to mention he made a mess of the US economy, generally made every other country in the world hate the USA and he was rumored to be a racist.
Yeah, he sure did good for the US.

Really?
Are they sure 300 men is strong enough? I don't think it will be that useful as a peacekeeping force, especially if they follow the standard UN ROE.

UN peacekeepers are always an international force, this is just the Canadian contribution.

there is also a report from Libyan State TV of a NATO vessel being hit, NATO is denying this claim.

I hope so. China usually abstains rather than vetos and Russia vetos less than it used to so if France can grease the diplomatic wheels enough, it's possible.

It seems if you want something done politically in another country get France to do it. Want any fighting done once you get the backing let everybody else do it lol.

Ahahaha well to be fair they are fighting in Libya.
Tunisia warned Libya it would refer Tripoli to the U.N. Security Council if it continued to commit "enemy acts", Tunisian media reported on Tuesday.

As demonstrations across Yemen continued, the opposition said it sticks to the original GCC plan and nothing else, after the GCC suggested altering the deal in Saleh's favor to get him to step down. The opposition warned that if the GCC did not get Saleh to step down soon, the people will try to remove him by force as they wish to prosecute him for crimes

The UN is asking for a 42 hour ceasefire so aid can reach civilians.

Tunisia has warned the loyalist forces of a referral of defence to the UNSC if 'enemy acts' continue. This would result in the NATO forces occupying the Libya/Tunisian border and possible mounting a ground attack on behalf of Tunisia.

Despite Loyalist reports that say they had severely damaged a NATO ship, NATO says all of their ships sit outside of Gaddafi's artillery range and no vessel had been hit.

The Libyan government has released the 4 journalists that had been arrested for entering the country illegally.

The US, EU and Canada have moved to sanction the Syrian President for abuses of human rights

The Russian President has said he would not support a UNSC sanction that was parallel to the Libyan one, this is a move away from their previous stance of moving to block such sanctions.

Syrian refugees are attempting to flee even to their historical enemies in Israel to avoid the bloody crackdown.
