6 more explosions in the Gaddafi compound last night

It appears the Rebels in Benghazi have been able to procure weapons from somewhere with the majority of the trained men in the rebel militia using M16s and other 'western' hardware in favour of the older Russian weapons they had used previously.

The South African President is meeting with Gaddafi this week to discuss an 'exit strategy'

Gaddafi's government has sent ceasefire proposals to the UN, EU and NATO with Gaddafi's position as up for discussion. All the proposals have him sitting in power during negotiations under the Ceasefire, but they said him leaving office is up for discussion. The rebels maintain they will not agree to a ceasefire with Gaddafi in power at all.

there is some dissent in the rebel ranks with the idea that elections could take up to 2 years to organize in the aftermath of the civil war, instead of the six months originally thought

The clean up of Misurata has begun and the rebels are just now discovering the magnitude of the traps Gaddafi forces left as they retreated. they have found over 20 high explosive mines in residential homes alone in the past day.

The Gaddafi loyalist offer of a ceasefire states they are willing to offer: unconditional talks with rebels, declare an amnesty for both sides and draft a new constitution and allow for discussion on Gaddafi's role or exile.

Canada's council on the Libyan Campaign has approved the extension and increase of Canadian involement. there is no word on what this would entail.

OT: Why don't we hear about Libya on the news anymore?
I mean it is still happening, but have all the major battles and what not ceased?

3rd or 4th largest ever.

as to why it's not on the news much any more is probably because the City of Misurata has been taken by the rebels, and Benghazi hasn't made a real move in about a month. it's turning into a a political game again.

The Yemeni president has once again refused to step down at the last minute. Actual firefights have broken out as the country begins to spiral into civil war as the pro-democracy uprising rallies behind a powerful Hashid Tribe.

In Syria, security forces have fired live ammunition into crowds in Deraa. The pro-democracy reformists still come out in droves, unarmed, to protest the Syrian regime. The pro-reform call has brought together historical enemies in the Muslim, Christian and Jewish populations of the country, even bringing rival Islamic tribes together under one banner. Military experts think that the only reason the Syrian regime hasn't fallen is that the reformists are very separated from each other physically, and have a hard time organizing.

in Yemen yes, in Syria they are intentionally going unarmed to garner international support. The world wont support an uprising that shoots first.

Yemen is going into civil war... thats what the president gets then...

Syrians are proving a point, if China and Russia don't see that then they are either blind or oblivious.

In Yemen the lines are drawn there are two very distinct sides, and they have a leading group.

In Syria, its just the people, just like in Tunisia, and Egypt, and how Libya started.
