We should know better, because we are better.

The Rebels are so close to Tripoli that I might venture to say this whole thing will be over by the end of summer.

i give Gaddafi a month, they could be 10km from Tripoli by now since last we heard they were 20km.

20km is not a long distance (relatively speaking), I could see the Rebels on the outskirts of Tripoli in 2-3 weeks, less with the some good luck and NATO bombs.

The rebels need to keep a clean state of mind and not get excited. Mistakes will happen.

i'm sure they learned from their earlier offensives, at least i hope they did.

Muammar Gaddafi, the embattled Libyan leader, would agree to internationally-supervised elections on condition there is no vote-rigging, the Libyan leader's eldest son told an Italian newspaper in an interview published on Thursday, Reuters reported.

Saif al-Islam told the daily Corriere della Sera:

They could be held within three months. At the maximum by the end of the year, and the guarantee of transparency could be the presence of international observers.

Good sign, this tells us that Gaddafi is getting desperate, if he is now willing to have elections.

LIBYA

In the West the Rebels have claimed vicory over the region having secured everything up to the Tripoli province's boarder.

Gaddafi reportedly said he would allow international observers to run an election that if he lost he would step down. However, Russian envoy to Libya that talked with Gaddafi's son said Gaddafi has no intention of stepping down at this time.

The US house of Representatives have rejected Obama's reasoning for US involvement in the Libya Campaign. The vote goes to the Senate next week for withdrawal from the NATO led Mission.

YEMEN
The Opposition has agreed to further GCC mediation on the condition Saleh is first banned from re-entering the country, forcing him to step down.

al-Qaeda, invited in by Saleh, who have now turned against the Yemeni government, have taken over the town al-Hota

Discussions between the pro-democracy opposition and the ruling Baathist party have begun in an attempt to build a new ruling interim council, as to be able to put a stop to the runaway al-Qaeda millitants, and bring peace to the country in a 3 sided civil war.

SYRIA
Tanks, troop carriers and armored vehicles have entered Khan Sheikhun, and surrounded Hama.

Turkey is considering sending a military 'expeditionary force' into Syria to create a buffer between the protesting towns and the mass military crackdown, with or without UN approval. As an Arab Nation, Turkey can do so without world wide political ramifications, as the mass of Syrian Troops moving towards the Turkish boarder can be seen as an aggressive move. This also opens the door to NATO forces to enter the country without UN resolution if Turkish forces are fired upon, as Turkey, being a member of NATO, can legally request the intervention of their allies.

ARAB SPRING AS A WHOLE
Russia and China have issued a joint statement saying they will oppose any UN sanction that allows western nations to intervene militarily or financially in the Arab uprisings.

They even went far enough to say they would oppose it militarily if necessary.

Damn, the Syrian situation is really getting out of hand. Is there a real chance of war breaking out?

possibly, however unlikely... there would be huge political ramifications over it as the situation is rather polarized on this one. wars could be started over such a war, and nobody wants that.

Turkey could start World War III if China and Russia appose them Militarily.

but this is a threat to Turkey and under Article 5 of the NATO Charter, NATO as a whole.

this is getting worst by the day Politically, and with situations on the ground.

If Syria attacks Turkey, and Russia or China decide to respond to Turkey's military actions, the result would be a world war between NATO(40 countries) and the mass network of alliances that Russia and China have. it could be very very ugly.

the problem is China, Russia, and their Allies have more man power then the 40 NATO countries. UN would be unable to do anything about it to.

and if it does lead to this i blame Bashar Al-Assad.

Since the Rebels are now at Tripoli's border, I think this will end faster then either of us thought.

i'm sure they learned from their earlier offensives, at least i hope they did.

and then people wonder why countries like Canada, Britain and France are going through a massive military build up.

It's because the world no longer has a stable political climate.

Unbelievable. If the US withdraws now, the whole thing might collapse. The entire rebelion might become in vain. Why do they choose now, when they are so close to reaching their goal, to withdraw?

We had a stable political climate? It was my understanding that everybody just hated everybody on the false creed that being born on a stupid piece of land actually meant something.

Not really. The US has stepped back from most air support. Almost everything now is logistics and Predator drones. Canada already said they would pick up the slack caused by America's congress being petty again.

Canada has 34 planes ready if the US pulls out. which is more firepower since the US only has been doing Aerial Refueling and sporadic predator AGM-114 strikes.
