What happened to the Libyan rebels advance? I thought that Gaddafis troops were all tied up in Misrata and else where and that the rebels would hit Tripoli soon. But i read in Al Jazeera that the advance had turned into another stalemate

From what I understand, the Loyalists set up HUGE minefields all over the place.

Yet another violation of the rules of warfare.

they advanced, and Gaddafi is practically pinned down in little pockets across the country, with the strongholds of Tripoli and Brega and a big force around Misurata.

since the Rebels got about 50-80km from Tripoli it kinda stalled again, mostly due to huge minefields everywhere.

Libya
Rebels have food rations in multiple abandoned Gaddafi camps that were manufactured in Turkey. The company that makes them says it does sell to Private companies. This means that Gaddafi's forces have found a way to import supplies, as some of them have been manufactured AFTER the sanctions blocking the support of the regime's military.

ICC prosecutors will vote on Monday as to issue an arrest warrant of at least 3 counts of Crimes against Humanity for Gaddafi.

The UN has unfrozen assets that allow Libyan Nationals to attend post secondary institutions abroad. The US and Canada have also granted benefit packages to the students in North America who have suffered financially due to the war in Libya.

An inner circle member of the Gaddafi Regime defected today. He says that Gaddafi has come to the realization he can not stay in power, and will do so if he can achieve 3 goals: to leave the country, to have enough money to support himself and his family, and to have any ICC charges against him dropped.

The Rebels have put up an offer for Gaddafi to leave power, saying he could stay in a remote part of the country even, if he and his family say they will never vie for political office again.

SYRIA
The Syrian Government pushed with Tanks towards the Refugee camps on they Syrian side of the Turkish boarder. Turkey responded by sending police vehicles and Military escort to bring the refugees into Turkish territory. The Syrian Military has now massed on the Turkish boarder with tanks, APCs, Infantry and artillery visible less than a kilometre from the boarder. Turkey has not responded, saying that the refugees are still unharmed and no shots have been fired across the boarder yet.

Syrian Troops attacked the village of Managh, where APCs and Tanks fired blindly into houses, forcing the residents to flee the town.

An envoy from the Syrian Government toured the Refugee camps in Turkey, trying to convince they people to return home.

YEMEN
The US is trying to negotiate a change of power between the loyalists and rebels, before Saleh returns.

Oh crap. Why am I reminded of WWII? (The National Socialist invasion of Russia) Al-Assad's forces better not do anything stupid...

Syrian Troops attacked the village of Managh, where APCs and Tanks fired blindly into houses, forcing the residents to flee the town. This is what I mean by a civilian killing spree, ExquisiteDragon.
Syria's leader is of the mentality that if he can't rule, no one can, because Syria's population will be all dead.

An envoy from the Syrian Government toured the Refugee camps in Turkey, trying to convince they people to return home.

...What? I don't know, seeing all that artillery pointing at you would be somewhat of a deterrent. Not to mention that YOUR GOVERNMENT IS MASSACRING IT'S OWN PEOPLE.

UK in peace talks with the Taliban
Seriously?!
as much as this sounds really bad, when has one faction ever been utterly destroyed in a war? Wars end via negotiation and with the assimilation of the loosing side, or the surrender of one side.

We should know better, because we are better.

Good to see that Gaddafi might step down of his own will. It would be a much better start for Libya if Gaddafi steps down rather than the Rebels forcefully taking him out of power.

the CNN report who entered the country last week has re entered Syria and in now in Damascus.

Syrians a massing on the Turkish border? its good that they got all the refugees into Turkey (did they? the use of Military and Police vehicles makes me think that.) before the Syrian military arrived but they are at a boiling point now, i hope the Turkish Military has some units ready if Syria try's something.

It's hit the point, i'm not as concerned about Libya as I am Syria. And my eyes aren't really on Syria, but the people who politically surround Syria in this situation.

The Turkish government went on record saying this today: "Remember when NATO was accused by the international media and public of not being able to prevent 8000 Muslim Bosnians from being murdered in front of the world's eyes? As a member of NATO and a country whose border is about to witness such a massacre by the Syrian army, Turkey will not allow such a thing to happen again, especially before its own eyes."

Turkey can't invade sh1t.

Before Turkey will invade Syria, Syria will invade Turkey, and then get immediately dogpiled by the rest of NATO.
