Gaddafi sent a team to Israel to try to convince Israel to tell NATO to stop the attack, skip to 1.18 in the video player to see the tape.
Lol, he's getting desperate.
I wouldn't say thats a good thing. Desperate people to desperate things.
It's seriously getting to the point where the U.S. will have to intervene and kill the bastard. NATO won't do it.

Why exactly do we have to kill him? It seems every time he says something crazy people on here say how "he's a mad man!" "we have to kill him now" but he never actually does anything. He can't. Dude's insane and it's just theatrics. He has nothing at his disposal that puts us at threat and the rebels are closing in on victory. We don't need the US to assassinate him.

His title is Colonel Gaddafi for a reason - he's primarily in charge of military operations as not just national leader, but also military head.

Sure he likely doesn't manage exact force movements - but he's the one that gave the orders to surround Benghazi just before NATO stepped in and he's the one telling his people to fight to their death to protect him.

Take him out and the regime will likely crumble rather quickly. There'll be forces that will try to continue his legacy - but it'll give a legitimate reason for generals, etc to cease operations or swap sides.

Thank you guys for your determination to keep this up an running during my two week hiatus. My role at work took a turn for the better, and I ended up training 13 people to do the job I used to do.

Now that that training is done, I can refocus my spare time into running things like this thread. I appreciate your dedication to the cause of keeping people informed, and I am pleased to see that this thread has not died since I was last here.

Expect daily, or more frequent updates again.

LIBYA
The AU has admitted they do not see a future Libya with Gaddafi in power, but David Cameron(the British PM) says that they differ in views from the NATO led coalition. They believe Gaddafi will leave AFTER political process, where as NATO believes him leaving needs to be the BEGINNING of the political process.

The Rebels have taken the oil town of Brega, forcing the few remaining Gaddafi forces there out to the hamlet of Ras Lanuf, a defensible position of little strategic value. The rebels claim that Gaddafi's forces abandoned most of the heavy weapons at Brega, taking only 4 wheel drive vehicles with machine guns.

Russia has said it will not recognize the NTC as the legitimate government of Libya, but will treat it as a negotiating party.

Malta has joined the coalition in a Financial role, helping fund the Libyan mission, but says it lacks the military resources to actually become directly involved.

NATO has started attacking any missile sites in and around Tripoli after Gaddafi's threat to destroy the capital if the rebels seize control.

Niger has now thrown it's support behind NATO saying that a quick end to the conflict is the only thing that will keep the country's infrastructure sound enough to allow a new government to properly defend their country and not go the way of Somalia.

Syria
Security forces have started to defect and join the protesters.

Syrian tanks have surrounded a town near the Iraqi boarder where protesters and security forces have joined together in protest of al Assad.

Yemen
Protesters gathered in Taez dressed all in black and waving black flags 'in mourning of Saleh's rise to power'

Yemeni forces and Tribal leaders joined forces to retake the city of Zinjibar in south Yemen, and wrest control away from al-Qaeda fighters who took the city along with an army base, about a month ago.

The Yemeni revolt has created a presidential council to negotiate with the current government and to take control in the future, while elections are held. it is modeled after the Libyan NTC.

He's a legitimate target.
but one that NATO has made clear they will not make any direct move to kill him. If he dies by NATO hands, it's an 'accident'. NATO wants the Rebels to get Gaddafi. That is what will make them legitimate in the eyes of Gaddafi's supporters, is if they militarily usurp him, not if NATO does it for them.

I'm all for the rebels doing this but it's taking way too long. And I'm not the type to sit on my ass and watch.
in this case we need to sit back. If NATO, or any western power were to do the leg work for the Rebels, the rebel government would always be frowned upon by the people of the country, as a western puppet government, and seen as second rate. the risk of a second rebellion would be too high, and two back to back civil wars would result in a country so weak another country(looking at North Sudan) wouldn't be able to resist the easy annex of a heavily weakened country.

no, the rebels need to win this, no matter how long it takes or the cost of life, if the country wants to survive as a whole

It's like letting the younger child fight stand up to bullies. *sh1tty analogy detected*
actually it is just like that.

if the big brother steps in to save the little kid, the little kid is unhurt, but when the big brother is looking the other way the little kid will get attacked again and again by they bully.

yet if the little kid fights the bully themselves, and beats them to a living pulp, that little kid will never be picked on again.
