Actually, the blame falls on the operator. SCUDS are crude warheads that need to be babysitted the whole flight.

Even so, a missile is still a missile.

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

With that scud missile Coming from Sirte, I bet that's where Gaddafi is
I spent a good 10 minutes staring at recon photos and noticed something scary. These SCUDS are not being fired from a Command & Control station. These are highly mobile platforms.

I've been busy today, and I couldn't check on anything about the civil war.

Has Gaddafi been launching more missiles?

Rebels control about 85% of Tripoli.

there are reports of fighting in Zawiya.

there are reports that the Rebels are now fighting for Gaddafi's compound.

Edit: 10:03am GMT-5: Loyalist troops are fighting for comtrol of the civilian airport. CNN reporters are currently there but all they are showing buildings with smoke near by.

CNN is now saying that the Rebels have captured 3 of Gaddafi's sons.
That makes all of them

Now they need to get Moatassem and Khamis.

Why are we so obsessed with capturing him? I mean yes he should be brought to justice, but shouldn't priority 1 be getting the nation under controll, and priority 2 establishing democracy?

They can't get the country under control until the leaders are captured. Gaddafi and his sons are commanding the military, which is why they need to capture them.

  • 08.23.2011 7:15 AM PDT

The cake is a pie

My news source tells me that one of Gadaffi's sons was not actually captured. Now the rebels are pissed because they were told that he had been arrested. Why they're so angry I do not know. He's just a damn figure head.

  • 08.23.2011 7:40 AM PDT

the Rebels have captured Gaddafi's compound but as of yet there is no sign of him there.

feel we need a Syria update.

UN orders probe into Syria rights violations

now back to Libya

Gadhafi says he retreated from besieged compound

i still think there is a mustard gas bomb somewhere in Tripoli...

Rebels think Gaddafi is in a bunker under Tripoli.

update 10:20 pm GMT-5: Malta has sent a boat to a port outside Tripoli to take the International Journalists at the Rixos hotel out of Libya. they have yet to secure passage out of the hotel.

The cake is a pie

I don't understand. Did they capture the Colonel's sons or was that just chatter? And what of the Gadaffi compound thing? I heard for a split second on BBC that they stormed it and Gadaffi was nowhere to be seen.

  • 08.24.2011 1:23 AM PDT

There is now more fighting at Gaddafi's compound and at the Civilian Airport. the Rebels believe that Loyalists are attempting to secure and escape route for Gaddafi because of all the fighting at the airport.

five more journalists are now stranded at the Rixos Hotel according to CNN. Edit: 10:47am GMT-5: these journalists have been released now.

there was also a report of a Armored car in a part of Tripoli yesterday at the end of daily fasting.

Edit: 1:10pm GMT-5: the Rebels are offering a reward to and of Gaddafi's aide's who bring him in dead or alive. it is currently 2 million USD and charges they would face being dropped.

LIBYA
The NTC has announced that elections will be held in 8 months. This gives people time to form parties, and allow them time to campaign to the people. post elections a constitution will be drafted and will require the approval of the people by public vote.

The NTC has decided that when Gaddafi is captured, he will be tried in Libya for his crimes before being sent to the Hague for war crimes.

The hotel where Journalists were being held at gun point by Gaddafi forces has been converted into a 'last stand' barracks by loyalist troops. The Journalists have been freed, but the hotel remains under Gaddafi control.

Even with the Rebels having taken the Gaddafi compound in Tripoli Gaddafi has yet to be found. There is some speculation that he is in Sirte where a number of SCUD missiles have been fired from, there's also speculation he is in Tripoli hiding and that the Loyalist push for the civilian airport is them trying to secure an escape route for him.

Fighting continues sporadically in Tripoli as Rebels try to combat the snipers still in the city.

The country of Burkina Faso has recognized the NTC as the legitimate government of Libya but is offering Gaddafi a place of exile there, even though they are an ICC signatory. They say that anything that will help motivate peace in the Region should be the first priority.

The people of Tripoli seem to be quick to denounce the Gaddafi regime now that it appears to them that he is losing.

Chad has now recognized the NTC.

Libyan Foreign Minister Abdelati Obeidi, a Gaddafi loyalist in Britain says: If I am in charge, I would tell them to lay down their arms. The civil war is virtually over.

The second in command of Gaddafi's intelligence service has defected, appearing on TV and asking all of Gaddafi's forces, not to lay down their arms and surrender, but to join the rebels and fight for freedom.

they surrendered on Sunday back when they captured Mohammad Gaddafi, before he escaped

I have a question about the rebels, do they support the Muslim brotherhood?

Also do you think Libya will become an Islamist state?

They have support politically from the Muslim Brotherhood, but it is an arms distance relationship, some ideals don't align there.

I really don't think that Libya will become an extremist state. these people have fought too hard for their own freedom for that to happen.
