Spokesman for rebels report more than 8000 rebels are dead

worst. spokesman. ever
why? he's telling people of the atrocities being committed by Gaddafi. He is also making every one of them a martyr, increasing the drive of every one of the rebels

By war standerds 8000 is miniscule. Still terrible, but it wont drop many jaws.

UN says they will not observe Gaddafi declared Ceasefire until they can see with actions he intends to enforce it. They cite that Gaddafi has yet to show he intends to support his words with actions

Arab League: A split Libya is not an option. The end result must result in a unified libya.

Well Gadaffi or anyone even remotely related to him is not an option...unless Nato wants to go through this a second time.
indeed, though the UN said that if he quits firing on civilians it is theoretically possible, though unlikely, that he could be left in power

Pro-democracy...

My opinion on this:

Bomb0run them three rounds, six jets each with thousand pound bombs, stop, one wave of Army-men and Marines, pull them out, bomb-run until nothing left but rubble.

Is that too much to ask for?

I'm still waiting for Obama or someone to tell us what our goal is.

Are we taking him out of power? Are we trying to kill him? I bet we could hit him on the nose with a cruise missile. He's not hiding the way Usama/Saddam have. Yet.

The guy is nuts. He's declared war against 'opposition', including his own people and civilians supporting those people. I'm all for the liberation of peoples, especially since we're so blindly dependent on this stupid oil they're sitting on... But what are we doing? What is our goal here?

Just found this also. "John Boehner to President Obama: Define the mission"

Enforcing the no fly zone, as stated in the title.

Officially, of course.

enforce no-fly zone and protect civilians by all means necessary. that means attacking tanks, or infantry that are attacking civilian populated areas

The No-Fly Zone is so that we can dominate the air. The question remains. Why are we dominating the air? What is our overall goal?

Yes, first and foremost, protect civilians. Great, got it. That's always a goal. We try not to get civilians killed, or let them be killed.

But if we're also fighting a war here against Ghadaffhi, we need to go in feet first and do it. We need to fight it as brutally and ruthlessly as possible to get it over with, instead of politically dragging it out for the next 2 years. None of this wishy-washy "America is supporting Britain and France." If we're going to get involved, let's get involved. Seems like no better opportunity to start ridding an oil-bearing country of their ridiculously medieval dictator.

Well, he-he, a No-Fly Zone would allow us to easier fly in and kill the tanks and the people killing civvies: by all means, follow my plan!

the US, nor the coalition are fighting a war. we are simply making sure that gaddafi CAN'T fight a war against the civilians. the end goal, the overall goal is to create and maintain a no-fly zone over lybia so gaddafi can not attack civilian locations

that is part of the mandate.

the no-fly zone is imposed to protect the coalition planes patrolling. they then patrol looking for Gaddafi forces threatening civilian populations. they are valid targets and hence are attacked.
