Only trouble is we have to rely on the rebels to take out gadaffi. There is no guarantee of them succeeding as they have little experience or training. I think we should arm the rebels and use the SAS and canadian troops to train the rebels
The Goal is NOT to kill Gaddafi. We are there ONLY to make sure he does not kill civilians. Infact our mandate can potentially leave gaddafi in power, as long as he quits killing civilians, that being said the Coalition will make no effort to keep him alive or in power either

Even the Rebels don't want him dead, they want to capture him to put him on trial from crimes against humanity

I dont understand, some countries talk about killing gaddafi, some talk about removing him from power and others talk about just helping the civilians. No wonder this campaign is having trouble, our objectives arnt clear enough. How far does "Protecting civilians" go?

more like the arab league. NATO should not be in charge
The AL is not a very powerful organization, no where near as influential towards its members as the EU or NATO.
I was correcting someone who had the Arab League confused with the UAE. Regardless due to where this intervention is happening, NATO should not be in command to avoid the image of western imperialism. however, a Specific Country taking command appointed by the UN with Arab League oversight of the decision, would avoid that image.

Almost everyone wants Gaddafi out but not a single country is willing to use military power to oust him. Everyone feels it has to be the rebels to force him out of power so nobody feels that a western nation will install a puppet government.

Western Nations are protecting civilians by crippling Gaddafi forces when ever possible without killing civilians themselves, and then only if the Gaddafi forces are directly putting civilians in danger, such as attacking a city, and shelling indiscriminately.

To much of the public thinks we are there to kill Gaddafi and assist the Rebels. We are just making sure that civilians are not caught in the crossfire. that is it. that is all. when Civilians are safe, that is when we are done. When there is no more crossfire with either the rebels or Gaddafi in power that is when we will be done.

Libya asked UN to cease hostilities to 'negotiate.' the UN refused the request, citing that they have seen no good will from the Libyan government

Are we really gonna let gaddafi walk off free after he murdered 100s of civilians. Leave him to do it again? After the civilians are safe, we need to deal with gaddafi to make sure this massacre never happens again

currently western powers doing that is illegal by international law. we can not just step in and overthrow him. his people need to overthrow him for it to be seen as a legitimate change in government

would appear what you were talking about was the UN meeting regarding Libya wanting to 'negotiate the terms of the no-fly zone' The UN refused this request

almost any first world country could deal with this themselves, whether it be the US, Canada, Britain, France, or even Russia. the thing here is international cooperation removes the appearance of invasion or imperialism.

Clarification for people who are wondering if we are trying to kill Gaddafi.

Britain's Prime Minister: "I have been clear that I think Gaddafi NEEDS to go, however we are there to enforce the UN resolution 1973 which DOES NOT call for his disposing"
