US Defence Secretary Robert Gates said it would be "unwise"; UK Prime Minister David Cameron said there was no legal authority for it. Nonetheless, Libya believes Western forces intend to kill Col Gaddafi. Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim told Reuters said it was clear from an air strike on the colonel's compound that Western leaders want to assassinate him.

yeah, they have made it clear they are not trying to kill him, but that they would not be disappointed if he was caught in one of the strikes

US Congress to move to cut all funding for Libyan Intervention on American behalf saying the decision of Obama was unconstitutional

Really, unconstitutional?

A treaty established by the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation with all the legal cover and backing by a lot of other nations and the UAE is unconstitutional?

Yet the illegal invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq was OK?

-blam!- hypocrites.

It's politicians trying to smear Obama is all. Clinton authorized bombings in Serbia without congress, Truman authorized military action in Korea without congress, Bush did it in Iraq. What Obama did was far from being a first.

lets get back on topic here and quit talking about coup please.

as to whoever said that the US would be giving up command due to coalition request, it's the fact that the US doesn't want to be in command, they are trying to figure out who actually will be in command

what i meant was that the handover is being bogged down because of NATO infighting.

it really is. NATO almost seems reluctant to take it. Support seems to be swinging towards a French, British, or a French/British Command

Looks like Canada will stick it out to the end regardless, Harper states reasons include:
-Canada is currently vying for a veto power position in the UN, and a permanent seat on the UNSC
-The UN Responsibility to Protect was a movement created by Canadians
-Harper also says "We are now a Country at war on only one front, as we have pulled out of Afghanistan to only provide a training role there"

Canada wants a seat on the Security Council? That is interesting.

I'd like to apologize here for an obvious Canadian/American/British political bias here.

I live in Canada, and hence News sources here are big on covering what the Canadian government's decisions are and is heavily influenced by American and British news sources. When i come across political info for other countries i will post it, but if you are from another nation(ie, Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, etc) please feel free to post your country's political stances. Thanks!

Always have. We were the first country in the world to have nuclear reactors, second country to have Nuclear weapons, and have the worlds fourth largest Navy, 3rd largest air force and one of the 10 largest militaries in the world. We developed the UN mandate to Preserve and Protect Peace, and the UN mandate of the Responsibility to Protect. Only reason we aren't is because a Veto country always vetoes us out, even though we are one of the most influential UN countries(we are the only UN country that has actively participated in EVERY UN mandate)

either way, again i drift off topic. Back to Libya and the Arab world
