Also, NATO's name for the Operation is Operation Unified Protector. the Belgians are calling the Operation Odyssey Dawn and or Freedom Falcon
also Turkey is sending forces to help now, 5 naval vessels and six F-16'sIndeed, I've just started updating the number of countries in the coalition rather than the forces contributed to preserve the room in the OP.
Alot of countries have jumped in or added to their force. I know Canada just rolled 12 CF-35s off the assembly line, and sent 6 of them straight to Libya bringing our total fighter presence to a full squadron of 12 planes(6 CF-18s and 6 CF-35s)
well if thats the case i lost my bet with my uncle on who would use the F-35 first in combat, but i got no data to back that up. but you are Canadian and would have more knowledge of that so, i trust you judgment. :) was announced today. We actually are in the middle of a election Campaign, and in one of our current PM's speeches he said they had just been sent this morning
then the news agencies here are slow, or don't care, which is odd because American F-35's are getting nailed because of the cost. They are here too, which is why it came up in the election speech. He made the decision to spend $16 billion on them and buy 'in excess' of 65 of them. He's getting criticized for it pretty heavy, and he was defending them pretty hardcore, saying that they already have a place in the world, such as Libya and Northern Sovereignty(read patrolling the North West Passage which is in Canadian Territory)
Personally i support him on it, our CF-18s are supposed to be retired in 5-10 years. it's time to get some new fighters.
Also note that today was the first day that any of them actually rolled out to either Canada or the US, that were not test aircraft. US may have deployed them at the exact same time. I just know we sent 6 of our first 12
