There was a report that came into my office that Sirt was taken. Gadaffi's pissed since it's his hometown.

i heard about that, a Rebel leader jumped the gun on that call to my understanding, supposedly the Rebels stopped 50km away from Sirt

thats what i heard anyway

looks like they will likely try and enter via the university in the south. It looks like there are some large, low cement buildings there will some rather flat treed area between it and the city proper. There are two access points to it (one to the north and one to the south) accessible from the Rebel advance. This area would probably work well for a C&C.

To the west is a dense residential area that would be difficult to clear effectively, and would be difficult to approach due to flat farmland to the direct north and west of this gate. with a heavily treed area ideal for ambush to the south.

From the University they could proceed directly north into a light industrial area with a tall complex in the centre for a good field of view towards the city's southern gate. If this industrial complex is held by Gaddafi forces, the Treed area between the university and it would provide cover for the Rebels as they approached. once they entered the complex they would have buildings for cover. after taking the central building they would have clear view of the 400 metre gauntlet of open space leading to the southern gate to the city. from here they would have a clear view of the residential areas and would have the Gaddafi forces exposed if they tried to approach this location.

I think they will attack from the university, and when Gaddafi loyalists move to counter, make a smaller advance into the west to try and take some residential areas to gain a beach head.

Crappy map is crappy.
the university i was talking about is about 400 metres to the 3o'clock position on this map.

the dense residential area is just out of view on the 11 o'clock position.
