Britain: Coalition is currently imposing no-fly zone

so i guess Yeehaw! and Tally-ho! then? or are they just now saying that it is being imposed?
British aircraft are above Libya right now

then its Tally-ho then

i would hope they are specifically over Benghazi and armed for close air support, because the wording of the resolution seemed like the use of a no-drive zone would be happening as well

damn straight i play Jazz.

UN revises resolution 1973 to say that if no-fly zone and airstrikes fail to protect Libyan civilians, ground operations can be reconsidered, not in support of rebels, but as a neutral party to guard civilian areas and aid in civilian evacuation.

Wait, the RAF are above Libya right now. If so then they could be above Benghazi, AA fire is being heard with a series of explosions.

It has begun

UPDATE NOT IN OP. 40 Protesters killed in Yemen by govt snipers

I've been watching the protests in Yemen for awhile now. The southern part wants to succeed from the north because of problems since reunification. During the Cold War South Yemen was an independent socialist state called the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen. The current leader of the southern independence movement was actually part of the Yemeni Socialist Party, which ran South Yemen.

I think our government should back this movement because it would be very good to have a secular ally in the region.

Gadaffi wants a cease fire. And the allies will bomb Gadaffi anyway, they'll just use 1973 as a legal cover.

Bombs will fall tomorrow. I guarantee it.
if gaddafi wanted a cease fire he wouldn't be attacking Benghazi as we speak

It's possible (but very highly unlikely) that Gadaffi could have complied with the cease fire. And it's the rebels that are attacking.

Either way the NFZ countries will get what they want. But if Gadaffi is still attacking then he'll get bombed.

International Criminal Court: now that sanction 1973 has passed, any indiscriminate force used against civilians will be treated as a war crime

France just deployed an aircraft carrier too. It is currently the only carrier confirmed to be used in imposing the no-fly zone

One aircraft carrier?

To sanction a NFZ for the whole of Northern Libya?

"What's up baby, how are you doin'? I hate the sound of my own voice and I been invited here to distract my self from the fact that I wrote all of this garbage."

It can carry something like 28-35 jets and Libya's air force is pretty old and not that big either.

What about destroyers and other ships as protection for the carrier?

it's mostly being run out of Italy (it's right next door) no need to send a ton of carriers if you can run a land based op.

there is one Canadian Frigate, 2 British Frigates and an American Amphibious group in the area.

USS Enterprise is also on station, and is awaiting orders to intervene and is most likely apart of the operational plan

their will be land launch aircraft from Italy and maybe Cyprus to assist as well

Betty White for President!

This may have been said already, but oh well...

Multiple experts on Libya have dismissed the effectiveness of a no-fly zone due to the fact that Quaddafi has been using attack helicopters as the primary means of air-support in tackling the rebels.

The effectiveness of jet fighters at thousands of feet in the air, versus a few low flying helicopters...it puts the international forces at risk of being shot down, due to the need for aircraft to fly low. Much unlike in Iraq where Saddam was using Russian migs.

But the only American base is at the North of Italy.

Cyprus is a possibility but they haven't said anything about letting the UK using their airstrips yet.

Is Egypt stable enough to use for this?

Indeed Enterprise is there, just is not yet confirmed as part of the operation. The US is trying very hard to not be seen as being an 'invading force'

They don't want people to think the US is going in to get oil, but is there supporting the UN coalition. it's why they refuse to take command of the coalition as well.
